How long do you plan on keeping your e92?
Good Morning gang,
As I purchased my e92 several months back, I have slowly started the modding process. Looking through countless threads and seeing all the dollars sunk into these cars, my question is, how long do you plan on keeping your car? I am curious to see your thought process as I change my mind everyday if i plan on keeping my ride past the last payment before owning it... |

Until I find the right SUV for the right price...
I love the car, and actually dumped THOUSANDS into her, but the headaches seem to never end. Shes actually back to stock now. I'm trying to sell all the aftermarket stuff... If you got a second car I guess it's no problem. But since this is my ONLY means of transportation and the car is so unreliable, I kind of regret purchasing it

I have an e90, and it is not a 335, so it is much more reliable, and I will probably hold onto this car for another 4-6 years at least (car is also already 6 and a half years old, june 05 delivery), and maybe longer as a daily once I buy an M car

I had mine a little over a year I spent the last month looking for a new car. I had so many issues with this car ... But after test driving many cars I've decided to give the car one more chance . It's kinda hard to find a car that could match up with this car performance and look wise

I agree as a daily driver I would not feel confident once it's modded to drive everyday as there are too many glitches here and there with all the ecu crap. If you have a second car then owning one and dealing with issues is not that bad and worth keeping for a while. For me this is the scenario so I plan on keeping it for a while 10 years and then giving it to my son. Cars in the future will not produce as much HP as the older cars as they are going green and more strict on bringing emissions Down. Now they have on new cars that turn Off the car during idling at a red light! What will they think of next to go even more green?

Pretty much my thoughts exactly with regards to each of your posts. My thing is, even before I got the 335i, I was looking into a z4M coupe. I seem to flip the coin everyday deciding if I should go balls deep on modding this car or stay conservative, wait till CPO expires in 2014, then roll into a M....

I just picked up my 08 328i and I will be keeping it untill its paid off. I will not do anything to the car but some new lights and some other small things.
I had a 08 civic si and dumped about 10g into it and the hole time I was saying I would never get rid of it but after having so many problems with the tuning of the car and just how it drove I parted everything out and put it back to stock. Tradded it in on my 328i and I really did learn a good leason in putting money into a car and then wanting to get rid of it. (IMO) do small things that dont cost to much money that way you dont have to tear apart the hole car just to get rid of it and you will not lose alot of money on the parts you bought new and now are trying to sell them used to get something back out of them. No wheels, no suspention, and not engine mods will be done to my car. Plus it helps that I have heard there is not much you can do to the 328i engine anyways |

Exactly my plans within the next 2 years. Having a coupe sucks when u have a baby, so I'm planning on getting rid of it as soon as I find the right vehicle.
Congrats BTW

My 335 is a blast to drive, it is a constant worry game with things that can go wrong I agree, but when things are 100% and the weather is nice, there is nothing else in that price range that I would rather be driving. The car is like a chick that has a raging heavy period every three months or so!!! lol There are horror stories, yes, I agree.....but we only see whats on here, not every single owners experience with this car so keep that in mind. Thats one side. Even now that I just picked up a 2010 Cadillac SRX-4, and I love this thing, features that compare to things found in the 7 series, but I miss driving the 335 every single day. Its not a daily driver IMHO, you need a backup for this car. Mine is RWD so I knew I would need a backup for the winter, but when guys on here buy a backup for reliability issues there is something fucking wrong here and I would be mad as shit! Is the 335 not reliable? Maybe, but I would rather drive an unreliably fast and more exclusive BMW (especially when a punk ass kid in some BS Audi s4 or s5 or even a VW or honda rolls up trying to race) then a n52 powered BMW. My time with the 335 is coming to an end, warranty is almost up at 100k, I have 78k on the clock, and regular people with no clue about issues with this car are beating down my doors to make me sell it to them. I love it but we have to part ways the car is not reliable enough for me. almost 3 years of mostly trouble-free ownership, and I still feel this way. Sorry for the rant. |

I really feel for the guys out there in NY/NJ that baught a 335i x-drives for reliability in all weather with plans on having that as a daily, then had to get a second car because the "total relability" of the car is terrible. That sucks, and on my next AWD car purchase (need to because of where I live) I will definitely consider that. AUDI is looking better and better everyday, even though it rapes my mouth to even say that! lol

not much longer... year and a half at most.
not interested in the new 3-series because i don't want an n55 engine. then again, i don't want to deal with another n54 either, so it's a lose/lose. i have my eye on the cayman s, unless they release some really amazing info on that tri-turbo m3 that makes it worth waiting for. |

And also my 330, while it is n52 powered was the higher end model when it was new, and it's certainly no slouch either. I also completely disagree that 4 rival brands have a better product. other than the 40 ponies it is short of a stock 335, the 330 affords all the luxuries, same looks, a great driving experience, and I'd argue better handling, since it's a couple hundred pounds lighter. Hell, I think I'd take a 328 over the luxury competitors, (C class / a4). Turbo's are nice, but I don't think they take the 335 into a completely different category compared to a n52's.

I do not street race nor was it implied that I do that on any kind of regular basis. Its just nice to punk a bitch every now and then, and know that you can do that at will!! Honestly my friend, there is no real extraordinary luxury in any 3 series car, lets face it there are a lot of proud owners on here in complete denial but at the end of the day it is an entry level BMW (M excluded) until the 1 series came along. Lexus, Audi, Cadillac, Infiniti and even Volvo now are competing....I know it sucks, its demoralizing and we all know that owning/leasing/driving a BMW implies success/superiority/coolness/hipness/style that most of us are programmed to desire here in America, the truth is that the quality most of us have experienced is definitely sub-par. Again, no disrespect at all bud, just my opinion. |
