Choose the hottest damn day of the year, but decided it was time to do my sound upgrade!

My mate and I both brought in our cars to Doran Pro Audio in Bankstown for a sound system upgrade.

My spec was to VASTLY improve the mid to high sound quality in cabin with a little more amplification. I wanted a sub in my boot, without loosing any bootspace what-so-ever (what a tall order! lol)

We decided to install the sub in the little boot compartment, which I normally overlook as an area with space anyway. So if anything, its a waste of space!

Install took most of the day, the fibreglass was a bit of a bastard to work with in the heat but it ended up playing a little nicer later in the day.

We changed all the stock speakers and replaced them with Cerwin Vega's, re-wired it all and re-routed the wiring to the new marriola amp.

The sub was finally installed in the boot and it sounds great. Albeit not quite as 'bassy' as a sub box would have been. If you can do with the space it would take in the boot, go for a sub box. If you are space poor, mount it in the boot as I did.

I will be going back tomorrow for a little more tuning, and to re-able the underseat sub for a little more oompf.

The sound is phenominal, I will be retuning for additional bass tomorrow.

oh, we used an oversized grill, as the rubber around the speaker is too large for the 'correct' grill size. I think it looks 'ok', might explore other options.

BSW

I'm going this way but I'm thinking I'll put it in a flatter grill.

uhuh! This is the product that inspired me

The reason I didn't go down this road is;

- The sub is slightly smaller

- The amp is for the sub only, can't be used as an amp for complete system

- Once installed, its unliklely that you would ever remove the amp and sub - so no need for a removable unit such as this

- Price is actually higher than a custom install

- Sound wouldn't be as good as a sub with a cutout such as mine

- You would almost definately have rattle between the sub box and the car, I had to have ALOT of dampening pads to remove all rattle

I'm not entirely certain what we replaced the stock shelf and door speakers with, as we couldn't use the CV splits as we didn't have anywhere to mount the split!

I will find out soon!

We had to add a speaker off the unit (not amplified) so the PDC would operate for the rears, as we only took the fronts off the head unit to the amp. Be aware of this should you put in a sub!
