How to rob a bank thread

*This is strictly for entertainment purposes only *

After watching the movie "Heat" with Robert De Niro, I couldn't help but ponder what would be the most fail proof way to successfully rob a bank. Here is what I came up with:

1. The Plan- Assemble a crew of 6 members that each have speciality skills. (i.e. Weapons, Driver, inside bank intel, police intel, etc...) Each member will be equipped with head to toe kevlar bulletproof gear that can withstand up to a .40 caliber bullet.

2. The Bank - Not just any bank can be robbed. The bank must be surveyed for weeks if not months to know the scheduled routine and when the largest amount of cash would be stored. This heist should also be done during near dusk hours as lack of vision can be advantageous for the robbers if well equipped. (e.g. night vision googles)

3. The Getaway - After the initial hit, the exit strategy must be executed to surgical precision with many backup options in case nature acts. The weapons guy must me ready and armed with an RPG to take out the helicopter. The getaway car and all gear must be destroyed or driven into a lake. Then must flee into the mountains to change clothes and become a group of "hikers" with "luggage".

4. Don't spend the $ just yet -The FBI will be able to track down the money if spent anywhere since it's marked. The money must be deposited into an offshore swiss account and then have funds transferred electronically to a U.S. account.

Feel free to critique my plan or add on or what would you do?

Used to work for a bank, damn near impossible to actually rob one except for walk in and ask for money and hope you get away. These elaborate ways would never work, banks don't keep as much cash as you think they do, only enough to get through the day that they've spent years averaging for each single day of the year.

Movies where they walk in to a vault and there is millions on the table is all fallacy.

It would depend on the bank. Suburban bank with a drivethrough, or big urban megabank.

You'd also have to do a big investigation of the security measures of that specific bank to even know where to start.

Looks like Collins is your inside guy to tell you what they do

Things you might encounter though
-vault is closed right away on a time lock
-dye packs, decoys, marked bills, or tracking devices
-armed guards
-responsive police
-concealed carry permit holder
-How to evade

The elaborate movie heists sure are fun though. I think in the real world though, most meth-head bank robbers just go for the drawers.

You are right. That is one major flaw that I left out. BUT, a check into cash store carries at minimum $100k on hand (I have a friend that works for the armored transport companies) and this plan would have to be adjusted to one of those stores multiplied times how many stores you want to hit up.

How about hitting the gold reserve or a government (citizen's) datacenter so you can sell data on the black market. Since banks are becoming overrated targets?

You would probably need an army of helpers though for the reserve, but it comes close to a movie-like heist
Hacking the datacenter should be the easiest one with someone highly placed on the inside.. Read an article that said a person's data is worth a few bucks on the black market.. steal millions get multiple millions tu gusta?

There are so many triggers in the bank you wouldn't be able to get out before the cops were at the door. That is unless this was a bank robbery that you were going to walk away with enough money to pay off police and drivers etc...Drivers pick up, and receive cash daily even if we were 10k over/under. Somewhere around 500k would be max in the vault at the biggest bank, because of rules from FDIC. 500k isn't enough for me to risk shooting down helicopters, wouldn't get you far at all. If I was going to rob a bank, it would have to be worth millions.

500k-1 million in cash is definitely not worth it. Suppose you have 5 people in the group and there is 1 million in cash. Each person only comes out with 200k.

If caught, you will be serving 15-20 years. If you shoot down a chopper, you will probably be serving life terms.

You keep giving great ideas bro. I'm starting to think NYPD. From articles I've read they seem most corrupt and willing to take large offers.

As far as the money, I guess it will have to be hypothetically speaking millions if banks actually hold around 500k.

Problem with that movie, the vault with safe deposit boxes shuts everyday at closing, and NO ONE can open it until the next day when the timer is up. By far the hardest thing to rob in a bank.

Casinos are ten times harder, the entire place is covered in cameras. I don't think anyone has ever been successful at robbing a casino, that one guy recently robbed the chips, but they caught him very soon because of RFID chips in the big chips

Hardly lol but vaults now have to be opened by multiple employees so getting the together would add time to getting the money too.
