Folks,

Do you also hear the reflection of the wind noise from the front windshield area when you go over 65 mph (2011 328i)? (Any time, whether it is windy outside or not) or is yours completely quite?

My dealer says it is normal. But, I'd like to see if you are hearing or not.

P.S: My $13K worth Fiesta is much more quite in terms of wind noise and that's why I am suspicious about what the dealer told me.

no wind noise, but low profile big tires can be noisy, maybe thats what you're hearing?

No it is definitely the wind noise from outside.

I usually hear it too but make sure all windows are up all the way, and the sunroof is closed as well ( even the manual part under the glass )

+1, but it was quiet at most any speed till around 150K miles.

Penet, I had the same exact problem last year. Brought the car back to the dealer about 4 times.. finally one of the tech realized that a Plastic cap was missing. This was a round plastic screw by the windshield wipers. Our cars have 3 of them. 1 right, 1 left, 1 center.... the center was missing.. I believe this is the Filter housing on the cowl panel..

I checked the brand of the windshield it is Pilkington. However, all my other windows are different brand (German name) but have also BMW amblem on it. Car is brand new (600 miles on it as of right now). Unless they changed the windshield before they sell it to me, everything is original.

pilkington is an oem windshield.

looking at the front of the car from the outside, on the left and right side of the windshield there are two plastic painted trim pieces that run from the roof to the hood (on the A pillar). how is the fit of those pieces, the end comes to a point, is it raised or flush. if it is raised from an improperly replaced windshield it can make some windnoise.

They do line up normal. However, as you see the rubber was cut someplace near to the roof and another one positioned next to it. I would say there is 1 mm of space between the rubbers. Can it be a problem? Also I may need to mention that I can also hear wind noise from the moonroof area as well. Can a leak in windshield can propagate to the moonroof?

I checked the plastic housing on the cowl. I only have one in the middle and it looks okay.

can't tell if it is normal without comparing to my car, but it looks like there is a gap running the length of that piece in the pic, as though it isn't sitting against the windshield.

not sure what is up with the cut, creates the possibility the windshield has been replaced though.

doubt the cut is allowing air in, there is still a gasket that runs around the windshield to seal it between body and glass.

i'm thinking that if those trim pieces aren't seated right, you are hearing wind noise from turbulent air, not necessarily a leak. try to compare those trim pieces to another car.

you're car has 600 miles on it? TELL your SA that you are going to drive a demo/service loaner to compare.

All I know is that whenever I have ANY issues my dealer tells me to compare it to another car(loaner/demo).

Put painter's tape (wont hurt your paint) all around the edge of the windshield, then take a high speed 2 way one. If the wind noise goes away, pull over, remove the tape, one section at a time and keep repeating the same run until the wind noise returns. This should help pinpoint where and if the w/s is leaking.

I already tried that and it didn't make any difference.

Can it be the seal between the windshield and the body? There are a few not fully sealed places in the firewall/cowl area (located in each corner under the hood) that the air can run underneath the cowl and touch to windshield mounts, which is located under the outside seal.

post pics, be warned that if the cowl is not sealing along the bottom, water may leak into the area underneath and pass thru the firewall into the car's interior. be on the look out for wet carpet.

Today, I saw another 2011 E90 in a parking lot. It had Pilkington windshield as well. When I look at it's VIN I could easily read all the numbers. Looking from the same angle, I would barely see the bottom of the digits on my car. Is it possible that my car's windshield mounted in low position? or can it be the VIN number plate?

I doubt it is your windshield. Check your jack pads. If the front ones are missing it sounds like wind noise at the windshield.
