how much did you get off the window price of your car?

i was at the dealers yesterday trying to look for the 328i in alpine white. saw a good car with a lot of packages. premium, sport, comfort, and some other sutff i can't remember. but the window price was 41k. i offered 36k (not knowing how much they are willing to do, and they counter offered me a 39k. the car has 4800 miles on it. and i was like DAMn depreciation was almost close to none.

so i went to another dealer down south. saw another alpine white, sport, premium no miles. window price was 39,XXX. i offered 37 and they accepted. but the only reason we didn't close the deal was because i had a pre-mother's day event for my family and i had to rush to the event and they told me to come back the next day early in the morning. soi called the first dealer and see what they can push out. they found a brand new one with premium, sport and xenon, sticker at 39k. they wouldn't disclose what price they could give on the phone but they said that they will guarentee to undercut the other dealers price.

hmm. so i was wondering how much did you guys nudge out for your car.

$2K off MSRP seems reasonable, but you should be negotiating form invoice up not sticker down.

If you give the impression that you seem reasonable, you may wind up paying more than you want to. If you're looking at the E90, offer $500 above invoice. With the E92, closer to $1K above invoice is more like it.

The reason I don't agree with that is two dealers' invoices are different, i.e. if they include MACO and training. MSRP doesn't change no matter what dealer...so I like MSRP to keep apples to apples. I started with invoice and then realized I wasn't getting the same out-the-door price. The SM tried to hold me to how many $$$ I wanted over invoice--he said you (meaning me) said invoice, and that's what we're doing, so what's the problem? The problem was this price was over $500 more than the first dealer. I simply said let's go back to list price, either take $1700 off or I'll just buy it at the first dealer (I was done going round and round over his invoice being higher [fees] and he'll show me his screen to prove it).

In any negotiation my objective is to stop the moving target and get down to bottom line. Now that I am shopping for an engagement ring, boy, what a headache. No two diamonds are alike, right? And then you got all this bogusness with the lab reports...sticking with GIA is expensive, but I think it levels the playing field for a price.....but I digress...

I agree with STE92VE, and alway negotiate from invoice up. I've never paid for those MACO or training items.

My last two negotiations only took minutes using this approach. I simply said $XXX over invoice and we can sign today (without any other add-ons).

Forget the diamond ring. What every woman dreams of is a nice matching washer and dryer combo. At least after 29 years of marriage that is!

*lol* the headache part is going into something knowing I'll either pay too much, or not get what I paid for. Not like a car where you can get the car from any dealership equipped exactly the same way. Throw in the GIA lab report with the diamond and 50% of the jewelers drop-out of the picture...

Again, with the car as long as you have the option to not buy a BMW, imho the dealer will move off of their high price. I test drove on a Fri. and they wanted list....by mon. we made a deal for $1700 off....worth the wait!

Yes, that is the idea. How much above invoice depends on market conditions in your area. You may get 500 over for a car on the lot, or 1K over for a car you want to order. Also, on a 35K+ car, I wouldn't worry to much about a few hundred one way or the other.

$1900 off of ED MSRP.

They didn't want to budge much on the coupes. I'm happy with what I got out of them.
