meth leak somewhere

jb4/fsb/trunk kit

i just want to narrow some things down before i go searching for the source.

I only smell it under WOT and it is a very light odor. the built in jb4 flow guage only shows it a couple ticks above 0 (160) on my temp guage. it usually hits 50% (250) when functioning fine.

if there was a crack or split in my meth line somewhere, i wouldn't have any flow, right? can i logically rule out a problem with the line and assume it is likely leaking from one of the fittings in the engine bay?

checking the entire meth line run through the cabin from trunk to engine bay would be a real pain

isn't there a test spray mode on the latest JB4 firmware? take the nozzle out of the bung, test spray into a jug of some sort and go leak hunting. You may also have air in your lines.

yeah there's that prime function, but it may not build enough pressure to find the leak. wouldn't hurt to try though

i don't know about air in the lines. that wouldn't explain the faint smell i get when it's spraying. has to be a leak.

First checking the fittings...What I do is cave man but it works...Get a little piece of paper towel and get some tape...Wrap small pieces of paper towel with tape holding it lightly in place around each fitting within the meth line in the engine bay area. Go for a drive and then check each paper towel...I always use a little boost juice to the mix because it has red in it and red is easily seen on the white paper towel..If you see paper towel with stains of red you found your leak....WHile your at it also do the connection in the trunk...As for the line underneath the car, thats another story and would require a lift.

paper towel thing is a good idea. i'm running straight meth (with some old denatured, which is probably why i can smell it), so it won't be colored, but i'm sure my napkins will stay wet.

fortunately, i didn't run the line outside the cabin. it's tucked under the plastic door sill things on the inside of the car. worse case scenario i'll just pull it all out to see.

i don't think it's a trunk leak (tank/pump) because i wouldn't be able to smell it up front.

thanks

the meth purge will work just fine to find a leak. Just make sure the nozzle is attached. I fill up my tank with a gallon of water, test spray the whole thing out and if there's even a drop coming out from the fittings, I teflon tape/paste the fitting or threads to ensure leak-free. Considering I run 100% meth, I have to be completely certain it's not leaking.

are you aware if these coolingmist metal fittings are reliable?

Don't know, I just got them to replace leaky DO fittings. I'll let you know if they leak. So far so good.

DO fittings are the absolute worst though. Nozzle holder leaked, check valve leaked, tank fitting/filter leaked, their products are crap.

I have parts from virtually every PPS meth kit maker in my car

ouch sounds like a pain in the ass.

well thanks to both of you.

shouldn't be too hard fixing the issue. i'll try the prime idea you suggested. i just hate taking that nozzle out of the charge pipe because i tapped mine instead of buying aftermarket cp or an elbow. the plastic threads are going to crap out on me one day.

I have an AR elbow that needs a 1/8 NPT tap drilled through it to fit CM nozzles, but you can have it cheap if u want.

elbows won't work because my intercooler setup replaced all the pipe up to the cp with propriety sizes and lengths

thanks though

I ordered a set of nozzle holders, a Y-coupler and hose for my dual nozzle set up from DO.
...and ALL of the instant fittings are now leaking!! F-ing crap!

I've tried to cut the hoses at all the endings once again to make sure to have nice and straight cuts, but without any results at all!

I've sent them an email about this and it will be very interesting to see their response...

Devils own parts are the same parts that Labonte use to use when they were in business. Snow Performance parts are quality parts.

I'll order the parts from CM instead, because I've never had any problems with their hose and fittings before.
They've always been 100% leak free and I really like that the hose is transparent. (Great for troubleshooting)

lol, +1... their pump is still working fine though. But their fittings are crap. So far the coolingmist bits are trouble-free.

the ring came off by accident (thought I broke it) when I was switching nozzles yesterday, but i have no idea how I did it. just put the ring back on and connected the hose and it didn't leak surprisingly. You could try twisting the ring? Not sure.

I have the same part from Coolingmist...That part also leaked on me when I first installed it...Took it apart and put alot of GOOB in there and let it dry overnight and so far its been leak free..You have to make sure its nice and tight and if you break that ring, just goto Autozone and get some o rings to replace that plastic washer.

looks like the fitting can be taken apart and cleaned like you said? Try that...
