Who calls the shots when doing a trade in?
I was thinking of trading in my 2003 325Ci (34,500 km) towards a 2008 335i. Two dealers offered me $24,500 (CND), but want the car within 6 weeks (Mid June). My concern is that 2008 production doesn't even start till September and don't want to be without a car till delivery in Oct/Nov.
I understand the dealership wants to maximize their return and sell the trade in ASAP, but who calls the shots when it comes to handing the car over? At most I'll put 1500 km on over the summer. maybe I'm better off with a private sale? |

You will get a better return if the market demands it. I traded my 2002 325ci in for a 2006 330i. It had 50,000 miles and I got $19.5K US. DOnt tell them that you are trading in a vehicle until the last minute. This might net you an extra $500-1000.

You call the shots unless it's a lease.
If you really want an '08 just tell them you want an '08 and aren't trading the car until they have the one you want sitting at the dealership ready for pickup. If you aren't totally hung up on having an '08 just tell them you'll trade as soon as they have your new car. |
