Retro-fit Heated Seats
Afternoon all,
I recently purchased a 3 series with leather but without heated seats. The reason for this was it had everything else I wanted (Sat-nav, online, folding mirrors, leather, auto, 225m wheels, colour etc) So I presumed that heated seats could possibly be retrofitted. Now I would like to get them retrofitted using OEM equipment. does anyone know of a place that does this? thanks in advance Mark |

IIRC, BMW dealers do a retro-fit kit now. Try asking them about it.

But at least itd be another option - those London dudes are too far away from me, if BMW were to do something similar for, say £150-200 more, itd sort-of understandable in terms of pricing. |

i tried to do this but if you have leather the elements are sewn into the leather so its not a viable option. i would be very wary of fitting non oem parts to my car in fact i just would not. one option is to buy seats with the heaters already fitted, but you will still have to buy the switches which new are about £200. i gave up in the end as far too expensive, just buy some woolly pants!

Try these guys, was recommended them by my dealer when I was looking for a car for which I wanted the heated seats and they wheren't fitted - then a car came along with them, so didn't need to end up using them:

Retrofit Kit but not for leather or M-Sport, dunno if some of the individual parts might be bought separately. There is also some M-Sport heating elements on realoem, but they look to be very expensive.
I am looking to do the same thing, but at least I have the heated seats themselves. Just need the wiring and control modules though. |

Cheers for the guys
I want to try and find a place that uses OEM parts though. It is a m sport with leather sports seats. Will keep looking. You don't realise how much you miss them till these cold winter mornings |

That link above... £400 for retrofit; is very good value using OEM BMW wiring, switches, element etc.
Very impressed by that. Almost makes me drop heated seats off the must have spec option knowing that this is available, then again it would still be more hassle to go this route than just buy a car with the seats... hehe. Especially as my spec is less picky than the OP by the sounds of it.

Did you do a seat swap? Just wondering how you got the heating elements already! Very tempted to contact those guys in London and see if they fancy a bit of a holiday in Northern Ireland for a couple of days! |

With regards to my spec I wasn't really looking for those extras but as soon as I saw this on I had to have it but just so happens it didn't have heated seats like my previous E92. |

Not OEM wiring, in the ebay ad it looks like it is but you receive some made up wires that are different colour and thickness to OEM, couldnt comment on the rest of the claims but I would ask specific questions first. Heres my thread, a lot of it is changing the rear leather cover but it shows the wiring you receive if you buy the wiring seperately. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=596052 You will need the switches, I bought mine for £70 of ebay and you may be able to sell your standard ones for something, although they are different types for E91/0 and E92. Theres a guide on here that is the offical BMW retro fit guide which shows everything you need to know/do and buy, assuming you have electric seats to start with. If you can buy the seats with all the heated gubbins already in then its a lot easier. Dropping the fusebox is time consuming but when you understand the guide, fitting the wiring is quite easy. I'll update my thread once I get the front seats in. |

I have spoken to this eBay guy and you are correct - he makes up a wiring loom. I have got the switches from Quarry motors for £45, and a new head unit trim panel from BMW for £19. I have made an appointment to see this guy in London on Thursday when he will fit the wiring for me. The question is: if I want to leave this guy with the car whilst fitting the loom what can I do to prevent him driving off in the thing and me never seeing the car again? (I need to go to a couple of business meetings). He seems to be an independent bloke who works from a mobile van. |

Is he back in the country? Last time I spoke to him he was back in Vietnam. Mine was unfortunately unsuccessful as I have electric memory seats which requires two different modules and I'm not paying BMW prices.

Easiest solution would be to buy some heated seats, heated seat buttons, make up your own wiring loom and pay someone to code it once all fitted.
I ended up fitting the looms/buttons/seats etc only to find out that the M Sport seats I bought weren't heated afterall....DOH !!!! Wiring took a few hours and not that difficult to do. |

I've had TrimTechnik fit them to the Mrs' X3, work very well and the job was professionally done, only thing I don't like is the switch position, it's on the side of the seat. Looks logical when the door is open, or if you glance down - but changing them on the move is a pain.
Would have preferred to have the switches on the centre consol or near the handbrake if I was to do again. Still managed to get them done within the deal. |
