Codes 29D3 - 2AAD - 29F3 HELP!
Anyone have any experience or knowledge with the code 29D3?
On another code note, what in the world would cause codes 2AAD (fuel pump emergency off) and 29F3 (fuel pressure sensor) to be thrown? Tuning issue? Anything to worry about? On this same note, last time in the dealer they did replace my HPFP and a couple of injectors......could it be related to this? Thanks in advance fellas.

Seriusly if you haven't already seen my thread where LPFP went out on me at idle I thought I had blown the engine Just had HPFP and all injectors replaced barely 2000 miles before both the LPFP and fuel regulator went out and had to be replaced on my dime. This is like Deja Vu for me. Atleast you get symptoms and can get ahead of it. Am just surprised at how many issues related to fuel system just keep popping up repeatedly. $1400 later am a happy camper, but I almost had a cow when it happened to me out of no where. Leave the codes alone (DO NOT delete) and take the dealer, I suppose you still have warranty yeah? They should take care of it. Nothing that happens to your car is the first time. Someone else already expirienced it before you since you are an 08 and these cars been around since 06. Thats the beauty of the forum. You go to dealer with some clue at a minimum. Am going to bet your LPFP and possibly the regulator too are on the outs soon.

Vase330,
Thank you for your response. I'm anxious to give you more info in an effort to fully diagnose what is going on. I cleared the codes earlier this week and nothing has reappeared, except for the 29F3 code. This was the first time I checked/cleared codes since my dealer visit (wherein they installed the new HPFP and injectors). This leads me to believe that maybe certain codes were "left over" from my visit since they haven't popped back up this week. Your additional input? Thanks again.

Its just a matter of time dude. Issue will be back sooner rather than later. Your tune will exercerbate it as far as in if the pump is failing already, it will just fail sooner. My concern is it fails mid pull and that will be very bad. Regulator is between LPFP and HPFP. They replaced your HPFP, regulator codes and LPFP codes only show up if your first half of the trip to the HPFP already has issues.
Man I am not trying to scare you, but Did you read my long thread? I wouldn't play with this. Take tune out until you get it solved. BTW this has nothing to do with tune. Tune didn't cause anything just to clarify. You just don't want failure to occur when you have a tune in there that is adding boost to the stock setting because you could wind up with a very bad day. Mine was at idle when it happened, and it was so violent that it literary knocked the AC hoses off the climps that hold them onto the engine. Its nasty nasty stuff. Worse than the worst backfire you have ever experienced and I don't think its good at all for your engine. If this happens when you deep into boost, you see how the forces involved would be multiplied and you see what could potentially happen. I think the problem is safety system may not be able to anticipate the event and compensate for it. It only re-acts and shuts your engine down because you get no fuel. That sudden going lean can be disastrous. Not saying its guaranteed to fail suddenly, you might be luck and it dies a slow unineventful death where it just gets weaker and weaker and finally stops, but I wouldn't take the chance it suddenly goes out under load. This shiat is supposedly not supposed to happen according to the dealer, but as you can see it did happen to me. 3 weeks ago and still haven't done 500 miles since but so far so good problem solved.

Same exact route of repairs as I said. I didn't have a chance to see the codes. My LPFP went out while I was out shopping. It was dark I just called tow truck towered it to dealer FBO as it was. Tune was off luckily when it happened. Dealer told me the codes they saw. Ran some tests confirmed LPFP & Regulator needed changing, and that there was no further engine damage. Dealer said they saw detonation codes too. That was suggested to be suspect by some on here, but all I can say is dealer worked on car, I only have their word to go by. Shiv and one other guy here called the problem before dealer told me what they found. Only thing is they deferred on the whether it detonated or just miss-fired through the intake or had really severe miss. I know my heart did have a severe miss though , and trust me it happens you wont forget the experience or at-least not walk away scared half to death thinking your engine is toast. Amazing how much trauma these engines can take and still run.
Why not go in tell them what you see and ask them to at a minimum pressure test the system? Save yourself a lot agony and inconvenience. Or just wait for codes to come back then take it in. Just don't delete the codes. Turn off the tune and wring it out you should get some hesitation uptop too. I know I got that too a few days before mine went out. When it finally did go, there was no prior warning or symptoms. It just happened like that.

I go these codes two weeks ago on a drive from Tampa to Orlando. The car felt like it was struggling the entire drive. As soon as I got off the highway and stopped at a stop light my car stalled. It would only stay started for a short period and if the RPM's dropped below 1000 it would stall. Luckily I was able to make it to my friend's house and had it towed to BMW. I don't have a scanner to scan the service ticket but this is what it says:
52947 FUEL TEMPERATURE/PRESSURE SENSOR PERMINENT MALFUNCTION SHORT TESTED VEHICLE FAULTS 2AAF 29F2 AND 29F3 STORED IN DME. PERFORMED TEST PLAN B1214_DI6KDR FOR FUEL PRESSURE CONTROL. REPLACED FUEL TEMPERATURE/PRESSURE SENSOR FOR LOW PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM DIAG CODE D1330_B0000000_05_002. CLEARED FAULT MEMORY. RESET ADAPTATIONS. ROAD TESTED VEHICLE, CONCERN RESOLVED. I would suggest you get the car to BMW ASAP. Cause you don't want to get stranded. I was lucky I made it to my friend's before it died. The SA told me that they had to push the car into the bay to fix it cause it wouldn't stay started. And the service was covered under my CPO warranty. Best of luck. Let us know how it turns out. |

WTF is up with BMW? They wouldn't good will this for me knowing it is an issue afflicting a lot of people. Crappy crappy fuel pumps - make that whole system. Atleast yours was gradual without too much drama. This is best case scenario, what I experienced was definitely very bad for the engine, but like I said, I was lucky it happened as I sat at parking lot with the car idling. Had I been on the road doing a pull against some other stooge, I probably would have needed a new engine. At least I have that to be thankful for right?
