Just got new 2011 with all the media stuff but some surprises

And in the first day I have to say - you have to be kidding about a couple of things.
The iPod option doesn't include the Y cable to hook up. At least that is what dealer told me - so I just took the one that came with my MINI with me. It really doesn't come with the cable after paying all that for a the interface.

The Navigation system doesn't automatically switch from day to night display? My $100 Garmin did that but the couple of thousand dollar BMW one doesn't.
I have to say at least in 3D display - there sure isn't a lot of detail on the Navigation Unit.

I didn't order this car but bought it while it was on the boat. I'm still not sure what the smartphone integration and apps option bought me? It almost sounds as if I have to spend another couple of hundred dollars and buy a cradle for my iPhone 4s to do more than it does with Bluetooth and/or iPod interface kit.

Maybe I'll figure out more - my dealer didn't seem to know much about the electronics other than the sales pitch.

The smartphone and apps are required if you get navigation on the last of the e9x series. If you have the combox, you shouldn't need a y cable anymore, or so I've been told. And yes, the lack of auto day/night navigation screen dimming is annoying

1) just use the cable that came with your iPod.

2) for apps you need a iPhone. You've got one of those right? You need to download BMW connected. Pandora and Mog from the iTunes store. Mog is a paid service FYI.

All apps will work fine with the standard iPod cable. No cradle is required.

Thanks
Other than this board is there somewhere with good documentation on all the pieces of this system? If I look at the owners manual it says you hook up your iphone with the Y cable - obviously that has changed but other than places like this how would you know?

Thanks - as much as I looked I never found that and it wasn't in my paper manuals delivered with the car.
