Need Help, 335i POP at full boost.
So i have a 2008 335i with 65k, dp's, DCI, AA charge pipe, BOV, and stock turbos right now running the JB3 tune, have been running on map 7 for a bit, but about a week ago i notcied when i hit full boost not all my power was there. Also was not hitting full boost, id put it to the floor and the boost gauge would tap 14 psi then fall to 11 psi then back up to 16 psi, and thats when i felt i had full power, but i know my car and usually imat full tq at 1500-2000rpm and 16 was only happening at 4000rpm. So just two days ago i took her out on to a highway near byto get a better idea on what was going on, doing about 80 mph down shifted to 4th and took off, hit 14psi, 12psi, then bck up to 16 psi again and all of a sudden i heard a LOUD POP coming from the turbo side of the motor, once this happened i lost all power , check engine light started flashing and it felt like my car was idleing like it was mis firering on all cylinders. Also sounded real weird from the exhaust. So i shut her down, checked all the plugs, looked fine, even dropped the subframe to get to the turbos, as of right now i have only up to the Dp's off so i can only see the hot side fins, but they look fine and spin fine, does anyone have an idea on what might have happened. Sorry for the book. Was going to try and figure this out myself, but my only thought was it was the turbos blown, and as of now they seem fine, also when the car idles it does not smoke at all, and there's no engine tap or knock, inputs very much appreciated.

Maybe the charge pipe popped off the throttle body?

Holy run-on sentences!
Did you check the codes? Please do so if you have not already. I would guess boost leak. Check your piping post-intercooler all the way up to the throttle body. Inspect the connection to the BOV as well. |

Yeah, sorry was written via cell phone and was in a hurry. No this is not a charge pipe problem that's happened to me before. Although very similar pop, but with the charge pipe or intercooler connection faiilure my check engine did not flash. I checked the codes and it's saying misfire on all cylinders. I just got the front mount off last night, and both turbos. Everything in that section seems fine. So I'm going to now install my big turbos and hope my conclusion on this problem is right. Which is horrible spark plugs. I was due for new plugs about 12 k ago and kept putting it off. The more and more i think about this though, it's all leading back to the plugs, misfire codes , check engine flashing, horrible idle, no power. So going to get some new plugs today, throw them in and see what happens. Hopeing it's the problem so i get this figured out, and can get my car back on the road with these big turbo's. Your help was very greatly appreciated though. OHH and to those of you that might end up trying to do your own plugs, you do NOT need a special tool, 3/8's drive ratchet, 10 inch or so extension, 3/8's swival, 12 point long socket, not sure on exact size right now "not in my garge" 13 mm i think, but just sanded down the OD perimeter of the extended socket with a grinding wheel and it fit's right in there.

I'm not sure how far you have gone with the upgrade, but I would not change anything until you fixed the problem with popping and the misfires.
