I wonder for those who don't have RFT's anymore, do you carry a spare in your trunk? I know there's those liquid patch kits like the one from Continental, but I am worried about it damaging the TPMS?

I keep one of my stock wheels, on a stock RFT, in my trunk.
There are also a few threads on here about a spare tire kit that you can buy from Tischer.

I carry a small compressor, a plug kit, a can of 'fix-a-flat", and a jack in the cubby under the trunk. I also have a space saver spare that I put in the trunk for longer road trips.

Takes up a bit less space and can be used front or rear.

I've had a blown tire (that required immediate service) only once since 1999 (the year I got my USA driver's license). This was all too my fault as well. I drove ridiculously fast on a back road with a lot of ice and ended up hitting a pothole which bent the wheel and let all the air out. That's with my old car. So for 6 years of ownership of my old car, I've had to use my spare tire ONCE! I am fairly confident that the cost of fuel I've wasted hauling the extra weight over 6 years and 90K miles was higher than paying for a toll truck or owning a AAA membership for 6 years.
When I ditched the RFTs, I did not think twice at all. I still have BMW Assist and when that runs out, I'll either renew it or purchase AAA membership. EDIT: I am considering purchasing the M mobility kit, store it in the basement and put it in the car ONLY if I am going out of state on long trips. That's just extra insurance if I get stuck in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire, the chances of which are rather rare... The other thing is that modern tires are constantly improving. Tires are getting more durable and less susceptible for complete tire failure.

I have this in my trunk. Everything fits inside the softcase that velcros to the carpet so it won't slide around when driving. Doesn't take up much space. Has an air compressor, tire slime, jumper cables, first aid kit, etc.

Slightly off-topic: I've heard that the tire sealants are really hard to clean off the insides of the wheel and they usually end up messing up the valve stems. Is this really true? Has anyone seen balancing problems because of tire sealant pooling and then solidifying at the bottom of the tire/wheel?

Slime is where it's at.
Also I found a great deal on a fantastic tire inflator. $50 and it will inflate your tires in 2-3 minutes from dead flat!. http://www.amazon.com/VIAIR-85P-Port...3365285&sr=8-1
