Winter tire storage places around Boston
Fellas,
Does anyone here know any decent reasonable places that would store summer sets? Tried searching and found some 2+ year old threads, so wanted to check if anyone here has any new places they have discovered or have any personal experiences with their dealers? |

They put the winter wheels on my BMW this season and I watched the mechanics hurl my pristine summer wheels around without a care. Fortunately they all came to rest face up and there were no major scratches. I asked them to switch over the center caps and they apparently forgot until after the install because they pried them off with a screw driver and scratched each one. They did replace them without a fight when I brought that to their attention. Moving forward I am not willing to take the risk of having them install my summer's, so in the spring I'll just pick them up and bring them back to my trusted local mechanic who takes the utmost care with my cars, then back to storing the other set in the basement. I will continue to leave my Eurovan's wheels with them with no worries, but the winter set is steel and the summer set is pretty banged up already so what's the worst they can do? Incidentally, I sat in the lobby when they did the change over on the BMW and I heard them tell at least ten people that each wheel has a slight bend. Most people said that they hadn't noticed a bend and the stock response was that it was on the inside. They told me the same thing and my 17 inch winter wheels had only seen about 1,500 miles. So, are they saying that for the record so that when they bend one they can say they were already bent? Is it so that when your car shakes like an SOB after the install they can point to the "bent" wheel? Are they all really bent (possibly, this is boston after all). Bottom line is I don't really know whether they are pulling a fastone, just trying to relate my experiences. Good luck! |

Thank you. That is really helpful. I had a brand new OEM set I picked up in October that I wanted to store still spring, but seems liked I need to be extra careful with them, esp since they aren't in protective totes or anything.
I'll keep a watch for friends who might have basement storage. |

Depends on where you live. I stored my sets for 2 seasons in Fahey tires in Wakefield. No problems at all. Charges were also reasonable. Right now I have enough storage space in apt so started storing in apt

No major issues with Direct Tire. My rims are in decent shape, but not pristine, and I have not noticed any damage to them. They did tell me I have 7 out of 8 rims bent and I believe it based on the roads around here.
The one issue I had was that they wouldn't let me replace my front summer tires with anything besides RE050As to match the rears since I have X-drive, even though the rolling diameter of the PS2 RFTs is essentially identical. I suppose this is the typical response from tire shops and is certainly debatable. |

I have a massive amount of storage in the room above my garage. I will store them for you for $75. I'm in CT. Ping me if you are interested.
