Wearing shoes in your house
This question started on another forum i frequent. I notice everyone on TV always keeps their shoes on when they go into a house.
I have never been raised that way, i have always taken my shoes off when i come in the door and put them in the closet. It seems that most Canadians are the same. Just wondering what you guys do...

i'm a caucasian white american and i never wear shoes inside my own house (i usually just drop them somewhere after i walk inside), but i don't really like taking my shoes off in other people's houses. i will take shoes off if it's like something traditional (i.e. like most asian households), but otherwise, i don't trust cleanliness standards of other people

In my house they're off but I would never ask my guests to take them off nor would I take them off in another persons house. It is very common practice to take your shoes off in many European / Asian cultures when entering one's house but certainly not in the US and I would feel very weird asking someone to take their shoes off and vice versa.

In Arab culture it's found to be rude and unsanitary to keep your shoes on in the house, but I wouldn't ask an American to take off his shoes. I just hope he would realize that himself when he sees a bunch of shoes at the front door

Weird, see i just take my shoes off no matter who's house i go into. I dont clean their house so how can i expect them to be ok with me leaving my dirty shoes on.
People spit, piss, throw garbage, gum, etc. on the ground. Then you take your dirty shoes and tramp through someone else' house? I would think you should always take them off at least at other peoples houses. Its respectful!

Depends I will wear them if I feel like it in the house if i know I will be going out again shortly. My dog walks in the house and im sure he walks in much dirtier places than I do. I will take them off at other peoples houses though.

I used to all the time, and most of my family does.
However, as of late... I haven't been simply because my shoe collection has grown and I like to keep them all upstairs in my room. It seems like If I take them off at the entry way like I used to, I just accumulate a huge friggin pile. Once snow becomes a frequent thing though, I will have to revert back to my old habits simply because its a necessity. |

Same with russians. I've told american friends to take shoes off plenty of times, you could tell it's something they're not used to. A bit annoying tbh.
