BMW Station IPhone First Impression
I just got my BMW station for the IPhone delivered to me today i have to say thank you to Justin at EuroActive for his courteous service, and thank you to Taibnl for organizing the group buy and posting his impressions. since Taibbnl has already done a comprehensive review of the product, mine will be short and to the point, basically just to give a second opinion for anyone thinking about purchasing.
Out the box the cradle looks a lot nicer than it does in the pictures, this is probably because there is more detail in the curves and smooth contours than you can see. I also like the fact that the part that connects to the iPhone pivots forward making for a smoother eject. putting the phone in seems easy enough as the connection is in a pretty good catching position but taking it out isn't nearly as smooth. the technique i use is to push the top of the cradle with my index finger while pulling the phone with my middle finger and thumb. (you'd think some type of subtle eject button was to much to ask from top notch German engineers, but this is the cost effective integrated nav alternative i guess). basically this isn't something i see myself breaking if i stick too inserting and removing my phone gently. but i certainly wouldn't be too rough with it, and i definitely won't let my passenger (gf) put in or remove any iPhone from this dock. (the chick doesn't even know how to put the face of her aftermarket radio on, no matter how many times i try to tell her slide left until it click and the push down she continues to try to push it in... the result is the left side hangs lose but it works, so go figure her way is right too). Anyway i have an appointment on Monday to get this thing installed I'm curious too see how much hours the dealer quotes me, if at all possible i may skip coding at this point and maybe get it done later just to save some coin. **update**So yesterday i took the car to the dealership to have Station installed, the Service guys seemed pretty enthused to be working with this part for the first time. they told me they would only charge 3 hours for the work, but it is taking them quite a bit longer (they had to keep my car an extra day). Hopefully the car is ready today and the station will be fully functional; in the mean time i get to try this x1 thing out not really my cup of tea, but my girl likes it. The service guy did say that they are running into unforeseen problems coding my car. he said even though the product is supposed to be compatible with my vehicle, because of the build date on my car, functionality with the radio isn't 100%. i hope they can work it out. secretly i hope that they are actually trying to get my steering wheel controls to work with it . **update** Just got a call from the dealer and it is ready to go. i will pick up in a few hours. the only thing he mentioned was that i would need the Link App to play music...i don't know how true that is. but i will see Last edited by boxim; 12-13-2011 at 11:17 AM.. Here's where i am at now
i will post this as a separate thread as well I ordered an OEM part (BMW Part 84 21 2 219 219) the BMW station for Apple Iphone, this product is not sold in North America yet. It may be that it is only available in Germany. I had the product installed by an authorized BMW dealer, but am having issues with the quality of the audio. Music sounds like my speakers are blown. Goes from low to high pitch depending on what part of the song is playing. Song levels are completely off. I tried adjusting the settings on the radio and iphone, to no avail. What is interesting as well is the fact now the aux jack in the center console which played fine before is emitting the same quality sound now that the station is installed. I think it’s probably an issue with the coding, I don’t see it being an issue with the actual station since the connection is analog. I was hoping to get some information for my dealer on troubleshooting the issue, or coding the product, maybe an update is required that isn’t available in Canada yet? I drive a 2007 BMW 328xi coupe Any information will be greatly appreciated |

How is this different from the cradle that is sold here in the US?
