100,000km, time for fluid change?

Hello all,

My car just passed the 100,000km mark, and I plan to change the fluids in the differentials (front & back), 6M transmission, and thinking about transfer case too (X-drive), but not sure if this is necessary, is it?

Question to Toronto members: Has anyone changed these fluids already, and where?
Please let me know as I am thinking of taking it to the dealer sometime soon.

Thank you!

Garage List
Here's my most recent "service" at similar mileage

21-Nov-11 98,650 Oil change, Transmission fluid, Spark plugs, Air filter, Wheel swap
02-Dec-11 99,018 Rear differential fluid

Total cost was around $500 (at an independent).

Better safe than sorry

I have talked to an independent BMW garage and the $tealership and they both do not recommend in changing the fluids. Seems odd to me, but they are closed systems that do not get much heat and the fluids do not break down according to them. Why turn down money if needed?

I leave this stuff up to Perjad @ Precision Tuning.. I suppose you can google his location and contact info, he's at Langstaff/Keele.

I remember using Redline D4 in the trans (mine's an MT, but looks like it calls for ATF). Also, used Amsoil Severe Gear for the diff.. he carries those and a lot of different oils, but those were the two I went with. (somewhat related, I use LubroMoly for engine oil from there). Tell him Dave with the black E90 sent you, though he'll treat you well either way

Lifetime fluids = 100,000 miles

Changed my MT and Diff at 50k, diff looked fine, MT was black.

Check out these maintenance schedules, disregard the fuel filter change interval as it is IN the gas tank:

Same experience here.. I'm at 99k and changed them a few weeks ago, and the MT fluid was black, but the diff fluid looked good when changed.

Great info, I am following a similar schedule that someone gave me when I first joined the forum, all the same, thank you!

I still need to know if someone changed the TRANSFER CASE fluid, should I?

If I had an xi I would change the transfer case fluid at the same time I was changing the diff fluid.

So I started a new job last week and went for inspection

All done at RMP, 2 diffs and transfercase used Royal Purple MAX-Gear SAE 75W-90 (+ a bit MOLY SLIP Gear OIL Supplement in the t.case).

Also, if you have 6MT, especially XI model, I changed mine to Synchromax, and the shifts became a lot smoother, especially 1st-2nd

I wish I have given them containers to do analysis, anyhow, they said the oils were dirty, but the dirtiest oil was the one in the t.case!

Sparkplugs = $220
Cabin Filter = $55
Tranny Fluid = $80
Transfer Case = $130
Diffs = $80 back + $60 front
P.Steering Fluid = $60
Coolant = $80

You might get cheaper prices elsewhere, so shop around if you like, but I have always dealt with RMP as I trust Rocco.

If you drive manual, please try Syncromax, you will be glad you did

Just did my Transfer Case and Front and Back Diff , and MT oil as well today.
I have 105K on my e90 330xi.
Front and Back Diff oil looked brand new. I think it could of held out until 125K or more, but since i was doing transfer Case might as well do the Diffs.
Transfer Case oil was black as well the the MT oil. Highly recommend you change it.
Plus the shifting now the MT is sooooo much smoother.
Got this done at Advanced Knowledge Automotive.
