-Did you read it clearly? As long as you don't leave the key fob in the car, you're ok.

Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration proposed new standards for cars with keyless entry and ignition systems that would make it easier for drivers to turn off the engine in an emergency situation and help them avoid exiting cars with the motor running while the transmission is still in gear.

Perhaps the agency should add theft prevention to that list.

Police in Dobbs Ferry, NY, say thieves stole three BMWs worth a total of $220,000 from a single residence in suburban New York, possibly using push-button starters.

Dobbs Ferry police Lt. James Guernieri says each of the luxury cars had a push-button ignition system. The starter doesn't work unless its accompanying fob is in or near the car.

He says the homeowner had moved all the cars on Saturday to make room for Christmas decorations. He says the man then left a fob in each car.

Police believe the cars were taken at about 8 a.m.

The lieutenant says the thieves may have had a device that detects when an electronic fob is in a car.

He says the BMWs were a 2012 X5, a 2011 335i and a 2007 M5.

Wtf who leaves the keys in their cars, especially with that gorgeous line up. Sounds fishy to me.

this is very common in high end neighborhoods where people feel comfortable leaving their keys inside their cars or go to the store and leave the car running. but thieves always pick good neighborhoods to steal cars. i use to go into the store and leave my car running and come back out my car would still be there or leave the car unlock windows down in front of my house. my town has change in matter of couple years where i dont feel comfortable leaving the car open or running.

one of my friends hes a nypd, he had a jdm spec civic hatch stolen in front of his house parked in front of the garage..rolled out on dollys. wheels of the dollys were all over the driveway found the car in bronx few weeks later just a shell.

3 car thiefs were waiting around the corner long-long-long-long time, until the owner finally leaves 3 key fobs in all 3 cars.

Finally, Jackpot!!!

3 Kar thiefs jumped into 3 cars and drove away.

The End.

I hope I'm not the only one who sees scam all over this.
