Dealer Cant Fix 335i - What to do
I had an engine failure (and went into limp mode) a few times on my 07 335i a few months back, so I took it to the dealer. They replaced the fuel pressure sensor, and gave the car back.
About a week later I get another engine failure/limp mode. I took it back to the dealer, but for some reason the fault did not get stored in the computer...so they dont know what to do. I asked calmly and directly...so there is a problem with my car, you know what the error was, but you dont know how to fix it? They said, correct. Seems to me, they should be able to figure something out by getting their hands dirty a bit and not looking at a computer, but maybe I am old school... I dont think there could be many triggers to this problem - my HPFP was replaced maybe 4-6mos ago, and they just replaced the fuel pressure sensor. How hard could it be, maybe injectors, maybe plugs, ? Any suggestions on what to do - I guess just take back the car with a known issue and hope (as odd as that sounds) that it happens again and stores the fault. Thanks. |

you have to understand that there could be many reasons for a limp mode.. you can't expect them to take the car apart and visually check each component.. that would require too much labor. Do you have a tune that auto clears the code?

CustomE90,
Being a 335, your most likely problem is the fuel system. See my recent experience here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...0#post11009850 Having the sensor and the HPFP replaced, you have one issue left out of your common three which is the fuel injectors. However, I do not know if fuel injectors can malfunction and then return to normal operation - which seems to be the description of your problem. If the experience of the breakdown in terms of how the engine responded was very similar to your fuel pressure sensor then I would think its a safe bet that it is fuel system related. My fuel pressure sensor breakdown was exactly the same as my injector breakdown. |
