Wheel vibration + spacer question

I had some vibrations going over 60mph, got new rear tires put on and all 4 corners road force balanced. Due to strut clearance, i need a spacer with these wheels up front since the fronts are 18x9 +43. I put on a h&r 5mm spacer with extended bolts and am getting crazy vibrations through the steering wheel. What im wondering is, could it be possible that the bead is bad in one or both of the front tires? I cleaned the hub down pretty well and the spacer sits absolutely flush and is hubcentric. If there is still rust on the hub itself, could that be the culprit? It's getting annoying not being able to drive above 60... the wheel shakes pretty violently.

Yeah the wheel is still in contact with the hub since the spacer is only 5mm. the wheels themselves are the exact bore as the hub, no rings required. 72.56mm.

The spacer is only 5mm (h&r brand) and is beveled on the side that the rim mounts. I'm just wondering if it has to do with the spacer or maybe the tires are defective? this road force balancing crap isn't cheap and I don't feel like doing it over and over.

should i try to clean the hub again? i wasn't getting shakes with my old wheel setup and the hub was rusty. doubt that would make a difference now so its either the spacer or possibly bad bead, but this is my first time running spacers. + since i NEED to run a few mm just to clear the coilover, that is why i wonder what the culprit is

once u have the 5mm spacer on is there there still hub left on the spindle for the wheel to rest on ? do u have pictures

Hmm that's odd. If you just had the tires road forced I doubt that is your culprit. I'm willing to bet it's the spacers. Do you have photos of them on your spacer setup?

ok guys i THINK (am hopeful at least) i may have found the culprit. will find out tomorrow for sure. took the wheels off today to inspect the spacer and noticed that only the rear rims are hubcentric. I was under the impression that all 4 corners were the correct bore size for bmw. the front ones require a hubcentric ring from 75.1 to 72.56. ordered the rings and they will be in tomorrow. I am going to throw them on as soon as i can and will update. If I still get a shimmy in my wheel, I am going to switch front rims and leave the spacers on and keep on troubleshooting, but my guess is that should solve it.

man, I have the same problem. They realized 2 of the wheels are not hubcentric (73mm instead of 72.5) and off by 0.5mm. Does anyone here know where you can get a 5mm hub centric rings.

I will take some pics tomorrow. Looks like theres enough room, but maybe not? I've never run spacers before so I'm not sure what is actually an acceptable amount of lip on the hub for the wheel to sit on.

Gonna take some pics tmrw. Also, it turned out that the front two wheels were not hubcentric. Got hubcentric rings on the fronts today and took the car out...still getting vibrations although they are not nearly as bad as before. Now I can drive smoothly up to maybe 65-70. By 70-75+ the shimmy in the wheel comes back. Not as violent as before, but still pretty damn noticeable. It isn't subtle at all.

If ya can't find em, might have to get them custom made by a machine shop or something.

so anyway.... the wheel shimmy is still there.

I was mistaken when I said the spacers are hubcentric because they are not. the h&r 5mm's are flat and have a beveled lip. the 10mm versions of their spacers and up ARE hubcentric, so I am considering trying that. Although, I would much prefer to use the minimum amount of spacing necessary to clear my coilover.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Maybe there's an alternative brand to try that is hubcentric? It's annoying to barely be able to drive on a highway

As far as I know, Volk TE-37 have beveled bore. So putting a 5mm spacer (which is impossible to be hubentric) can make the hub lip short enough to not engage the wheel bore, because of the beveled area of the wheel which also wastes a few mm of the hub lip.

You are 100% on that. I was just tinkering with the wheels again. They do have a beveled bore. So, they are wearing 75 to 72.56 hub rings right now. I just tried to mount the rims on a hubcentric 10mm H&R spacer and they wouldn't sit flush against that spacer so i didnt even bother bolting it down. They DO sit flush on the 5mm H&R's but i get the damn shimmy! I'm so tired of this crap lol.

If you're having problems with the beveled bore, you can get a pair of hub extenders ( I think VAC carries them) worked great on my Audi after 8mm spacers killed the hubcentricity.

I have 5mm spacers too and my stock bolts were barely threaded on. Had to get extended bolts and it stopped the vibrations I was having... sounds crazy but the shop I had some winter tires and rims test fitted ended up when puting back on my rims and didnt use all the long bolts for the front and mixed with the back. I had 4 out of 10 long and 6 out of 10 short which caused vibration.
