n55's true horsepower

"it took five Dinan employees hacking away at BMW’s software for a year and a half to finally make it happen.

It was worth the wait. Steve Dinan has sold more than 2000 software upgrades for the 135i/335i, making it the most popular upgrade in his company’s 31-year history. And it’s easy to see why: For $2199, a simple download at one of Dinan’s 129 U.S. dealers immediately endows a 335i with as much as 384 horsepower and 421 pound-feet of torque (versus 300 and 300, respectively). Dinan notes that this is actually more like a 60-hp gain, as BMW’s twin-turbo inline-six comfortably makes more than the advertised 300 horsepower in stock form."

The above quote is referring to the n54 engine. After reading through many, many car comparisons and reviews, it seems BMW is somewhat unique in downplaying true power output of their engines (and reviewers who don't know better refer to said BMW engines as weaker than an equivalent mercedes or cadillac).

Does anyone know what the true stock horsepower of the n55 is? After a quick search of the forums, I couldn't come up with anything.

It also makes me wonder if the BMW PPK actually ups the horsepower a bit more than is advertised.

This is n54 section...
And n55 is about 310 crank while n54 is 325 crank
Give or take 5-10 hp depending on software

Crap, I meant to post this in the n55 section, but was browsing threads here and wasn't paying attention.

Sorry about that.

Should I repost this in the n55 forum or wait for a mod to fix my mistake?

Here's a comparison chart of rear wheel hp on the same dyno between a N54, N55 and N54is:

http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews.../photo_02.html

Appears the N55 makes 10 or so less hp than a regular N54, but the N55 makes about 20 more lb/ft of torque if you check out the torque charts.

Nice comparison.

N55 power is almost identical to N54. I have seen multiple dyno graphs, some shows it making less, some shows it making more power.

Yes.

Actually, I keep getting some sort of points from this thread, and I came here expecting activity, but there was none.

Also, upon rereading the thread, I realized I had a question.

The ppk is more than advertised. Bmw is conservative love them for that. Crank numbers on n54 about 340hp. Well stock is easily 320 so gain of 20 is what they claim.
