Dinan stage 1 reviews

I recently purchased 09 335i and am considering purchasing the dinan stage 1 performance upgrade. Now I know dinan over charges but I want keep my BMW warranty.

If anyone has any feedback regarding dinan stage 1 I would greatly appreciate it.

i dont have any first hand experience, but from most what the general consensus seems to be: there's no point in doing stage 1, just go ahead and do stage 2. apparantly stage 1's power is rather lacking.

I have the Dinan s2. Shit is fast. Am going to go with Cobb secondary to ease after warranty expires. It's a marked difference in performance. PM me if you have questions

Do not get stage 1.

Save your pennies and just get the Stage 2 if your car already has the factory oil cooler

When I first bought my 335i I rode in a Dinan tuned 335i and was than impressed and I was still stock at that time.

I have the sport package on my 335 with 17 but BMW only add the factory oil cooler if you order the 18 wheels.

Adding the oil cooler would just make the cost too great for stage 2...

in that case, don't waste your money on dinan stage I. instead, get a cobb accessport. un-install it before dealer service, no traces of the car ever being tuned. can be had for $700 or less in classifieds.

+1. I have yet to hear anyone that had issues with a dealer running Cobb AP. Install/uninstall is a breeze.

Have you ever heard of someone's warranty being voided by BMW even if they uninstalled cobb. I'm just really considered about the warranty. I purchased the extended warranty up to 100k miles and don't want to see go to waste.

Dude you will be fine. I just dropped my 09 off at the dealership this morning , to fix my wastegate rattle problems, and they have not said anything to me about it.

Agreed....

By the tone of your words seems like your a hater....stick to the logical point. He doesnt have an oil cooler so it would be in his best interest to just go with Cobb as it doesnt demand him to have an OC

No..they flash it back to stock before going in for service. The worse case is that you will have to take the AP with you daily and make sure it is charged just in case you break down and you need to call BMW assist to towe your car back to the dealer.

If I was you I would see about investing in an OC aventually, if you are going to keep the car.

Dont get the HP crack addiction and then forget about the health of your car. The longer you run "higher boosts" with no OC the higher the risk of shorter life span on your turbos.

Honestly when you start getting involved in tuning it becomes addictive. If I was you I would go the Cobb route and just before 100K miles get rid of the car if there is still no OC and then get yourself a car that has an OC and that can be used with the Cobb AP

Some good advice in here. Everyone just uninstalls their tune and goes to dealer with no voiding of warranty.

Don't know why no one mentioned GIAC-best flash tune in the U.S. No oil cooler required. Only thing is a GIAC dealer has to uninstall it unless BMW writed over it w/a software update. Costs less than Dinan too. I had warranty work done w/the flash; no problem whatsoever..

Cause.....

Giac Cost more then other options
Giac cannot be re-sold when done
Giac needs to be installed at a dealer
Giac is slower then Cobb or PROcede for instance
Giac doesnt offer the ease of use of other tunes available
Giac doesnt offer the features of other tunes namely in the piggyback market

No tunes require an oil cooler but they would all recommend them especially in hotter climates and for those who track their vehicles.

"No oil cooler required"...which means you run the risk of too-high oil temperatures associated with higher boost levels and modified fuel and ignition maps. Just because it's "not required" doesn't mean it's a good idea not to have one. Like everything else, "you pays your money and you takes your chances".

Well that's what I get for opening my big mouth; knew I should have left it alone

I agree. That's true for all tunes. Hell, a turbo motor shouldn't be run w/o an external oil cooler, period..

The COBB AP does not need to be charged. Simply keep it and the cable in your glovebox and plug it in and it fires right up.

And if your car doesn't have an oil cooler, I'd order the Evolution Racewerks one. It's worth it.

The oil cooler discussions always make me laugh a little bit. I'll throw in a little bit of my experience... I have an '07 sport package auto coupe that never came with an oil cooler. I live in florida where in the summer the heat is over 90 daily and humidity is incredible. I have the Vishnu Procede loaded with agressive maps running over 14 pounds if I am not mistaken. I was at a drag event over the summer in 95 degree Fahrenheit temperature where I did repeated races to over 140 MPH over and over again. My car's temperatures always remained in the 250-260 range. Point being; for someone who drives the car daily with a tune... an oil cooler is an absolute waste of money. Trust me when I tell you that if I didn't need one at that time; no one would.

I'd agree that for driving around on the street it's not really necessary. But my oil temps would be disgusting if I didn't have one for tracking / drag racing

I bought my car originally with Dinan Stage 2. Then when the warranty ran out, I put in the procede and all the other bits.

I agree, I was missing out for 3 years. Get the COBB, it is the easiest to pull in and out for dealer visits.

Don't buy the Dinan - save your money.

Unless you're doing laps on Laguna Seca or Sebring; I have no idea why you would need one... I punished my car in July on an airport runway at over 140 MPH over and over again with minimal wait times between each run with it being 95 outside. If your car is running properly and I didn't need one; I doubt most would.
