Christmas is early.... lalalala

Rob just send his last pair of turbo over the ocean to my little country... and even better to my adress.... installation has been set on the 3rd of january followed by the installation of my new gearbox in the last week of january.. (I'm going to beat the hell out of my current gearbox as it is already slipping)

Full report of the combination of my Procede and the RB's will follow. Next thing will be the new gearbox which we are going to upgrade to handle up to 700-800 newton torque without altering the gearbox charateristics to much. But that will take some months, a good thing is, ZF will provide support when required and were possible.

Merry christmas!

Thanks Rob for the quick service!

Regarding the gearbox, we are going to start with a complete new box. The start will be a complete mechanical and software analyses of the current box. Based on that we will compile an action plan for new parts and software. The engineer who is helping me out is one of the specialists in the world, luckely he lives in my country.
From their he will start to engineer new parts and we might get some support with both mechanical and software advice from ZF.

The goals are quite straight forward:

Gearbox should behave like it is now, adapted to the new power curves etc. next to that it should be able to deal with abuse in the long term.

If it becomes a succes it might become available to the market, but I expect that it will take a year or something to finish the complete project.

Just arrived today! They look beautifull!
One thing that is on my mind is the following, currently running oiled AFE filters, they are end of life... I'cant get them in Europe... Have to order them in the US. For that I'm considering going back to the stock airbox with a dropin filter...
After reading tons of threads about open or stock filters.. I'm not sure what would be the best, my thoughts are open filters as these baby's probably move even more air (I hope at least :-) ) then the stockers...

Any suggestions or benchmarks?

Thx! Yeah Mr5 style looks very good, but gives some handwork.... Do you have an adress in the EU to buy AFE filters?
Sofar my research only gave me US suppliers... In general i'm quite happy with them...

Dropped the car today at the dealer. They are quite impressed with the craftmanship involved.
Car will be ready on friday, as she has a full service appointment.
Now driving an X1 Diesel lol... nice car... but missing some pony's....

Will keep you posted!

Yeah I have a great relation with them... they did 90% of my modifications... and they appreciate my honesty in terms of guarantee claims.. (I would never claim a turbo, but on the other hand they have provided me with 3 new HPFP's)

Although they looked a bit strange at me when I started to explain that the washerfluid should not be refilled as it contains methanol :-) Also I had to explain them how to disconnect the chargepipe and the bungs... But they are really impressed with the car and the overall performance and driveability...

^very nice. i have a feeling a lot of US dealers are actually like that, too. i always have taken my n54 cars in fully modded (135i, now 335i). they never say anything, the service manager at my last apppointment actually complimented everything that i've done to my car.

i think a lot of e90/92 guys are spooked too easily about dealers and mods. dealerships get paid by bmw for warranty service; they're not actually owned by bmw.

exactly... and as long as they do not get in troubles.. all is fine.. just be open with them and honest... don't claim stuff you broke yourself and they will be very reasonable..
Also I have never had any isssues with installations... they know exactly what they do.. at least at my dealer...

I have had about 5 customers tell me they've had BMW Service departments install the turbos, all with good installation feedback. So they should have no problems whatsoever. Nice to know they liked them too!

As for the other comment on RB Turbo customers being quiet, typically that is a good thing because most are simply out enjoying the product. So many customers have little interest in sharing their results with me, or on the forums, or even posting in general, which may seem surprising to others who enjoy the involvement and the community spirit of these things.

Another reason I think things have also been quiet (alternative to some banning) is that nothing revolutionary has been done as what has been done already by some of the pioneers. The power numbers are all similar since we are up against a TMAP limitation (~21psi) and what is thought to be some fuel limits as well before pushing them harder which could hopefully lead to some better results.

There was a recent large build thread through Rennzport (bmwfanatics), in South Africa, and they really loved them and what they did for their customers 135 car. I enjoyed bumping into that thread and reading it through, nearly a world away! A friend of a Russian customer also has just contacted me wanting a set as his buddy put down 495rwhp on RBs with meth, which really impressed his local enthusiasts. Many sets have been going out in the past few months, so there will be more to come I am sure. Cobb has also just procured a set, and I believe they are very excited to work with them as well.

It is not much to say, but I believe there is more data on RBs than any other upgrade out there. Much of the feedback is inline with one another- the power band transformation is awesome though the midrange and top end with very little change in the low end while comparison to the OEM units which makes them a great all around combo.
