Can I use the head unit to power my center channel directly?
I am installing a dynavin in my Logic7 equipped car. I have a 6 channel amp to power the speakers and a small 2ch to power the underseat 2 subs. I would like to retain my center speaker because I listen to talk radio alot and I find that speaker to be quiet useful.
So i have each speaker on an individual channel on my amps except for my center dash speaker. Can i use to an audio signal wire from the head unit to power this one speaker?

You need to combine the left and right channels to create a center what I would do is forget about one set of rear speakers. So you'd have channel 1 and 2 front speakers channel 3 and 4 bridged for the center. Use an rca splitter for the front outputs on head unit the amp will combine the left and right channels. Then channel 5 and 6 for the rear speakers. Or get a processor like the ms8.

Im not stuck in the mindset of doing this way, but just out of curiosity what would be the problem with wiring it to the head unit itself? I might adjust front to rear audio, but I never adjust the left to right.

Your headunit does not have a center channel output. If you want to do it go for it but if you want to do it properly your better off ditching one set of rear speakers or get an ms8

The logic 7 headunit (to my knowledge) has no internal amplifier. As a result, there is no way to power a speaker from it. You could probably use the OEM amplifier to drive that speaker and then use your aftermarket amplifier to drive the rest of your speakers.

Sorry, I read that too quickly. In theory, he could power the factory speaker with the headunit (I believe the factory center to present a nominal 4 ohm load which the dynavin can drive).
The real question is, would he want to? My answer is no. You would have to pick what channel to drive it with (right or left). And that would really screw things up from a soundstage perspective. |
