BMW and Motor Oil

Hi everyone,

I have a 2011 335i that just hit the 1 year mark with about 15,000 miles on it.

I brought it into the dealer for the 1 year service but they didn't reset my motor oil reading when you first start the car so it says my next oil change is due in 2,500 miles or so. I am guessing this is based on the computer checking the oil life.

Does this mean they actually didn't change the oil? Should I be concerned? They said to bring it back in when it reads 0 but I would have easily drove it almost 20,000 miles if they didn't actually change the oil.

FYI

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60...e-our-m5s.html

You are entitled to once a year oil changes while in the 4 year 50k warranty period. If you want the car to last a long time you will change the oil about every 7500 miles or once a year no matter what the miles left says.
This is especially true in a Turbo which is harder on oil.
You can reset that counter yourself if you want to .
Your invoice should list the parts they used.

Those that have done Blackstone oil tests here say the oil is shot at about 10k

When you have a time (one year) based oil change, the mileage countdown is normally NOT reset, thus assuring you your next covered milage-based change. The computer cannot actually measure oil life, but there are a number of components which go into the calculation.

Unless you have some valid reason for believing that the dealer lied to you and that your paperwork has been doctored, just bring it back a few miles after the computer reads "Oil Service Due" and enjoy your next "free" service.
