Headlight turned red

2006 325xi, xenon headlight on the driver side has a red color to it now. I take it the bulb is bad? If so can you recommend a brand or model of bulb to replace it with? Also should I change both or only just the one?

Yep, Xenon HID bulbs turn pink/magenta when they've reached the end of their life. Rule of thumb is to replace both at the same time cause the other one is likely near the end of its life too.

It's called pink eye. That's a sign your bulb is at the end of it's life and needs replacement.

Now the next question I have is how do I take off the box protecting the light? It's not like the Halogen light cover. I'm sort of mechanically retarded so I need good instructions. I've been looking all day for how to do it but I can not find anything.

I've included two pictures, one looking in from the wheel well , the other from over the engine (only one clip is visible). The clips are hard to get at and I'm not sure how to dislodge the cover.

Hey man I have the same exact problem with my car! It's actually a bright dark pinkish color. After a couple of days it turned to its original color again but that's when it starts to flicker and then turn off! It's frustrating to drive at night. I went to the dealer recently and they said the xenon bulb is going out..I thought it would be a cheap fix but the Xenon bulb is 235$ and it's a bitch to get in that housing!!

I got a replacement Sylvania D1S HID Xenon bulb for $100 from Advanced Auto Parts. Now we just need to figure out how to get in that housing.

It's actually a huge pain. You have to take off the mud flaps and go in through the wheel well. Once that's done the plastic cover is an even bigger hassle, as it's held on by these horrible clips that you have to pry. If you break any of them, expect condensation in your housing. If you manage to get that off without breaking anything, there's one last metal clip holding the bulb in place which is also annoying to unhook. To make the whole thing easier on yourself you can take off the wheel giving you more room to work with. Good luck.

Replace with OEM only.

Either Osram or Philips.

Ebay bulbs may cause your ballast to fry.
