Plugs & patches
I was looking a set of Michelin ZP tires (3 to be exact) & found out that the 1 rear 255/35/18 has been plugged & patched! They have 80% tread left so would you guys run that tire????

I've patched tires with no problems after.

If patched properly, there should be no issues (especially on the ZP RFT).

It's tough to make that call. If the tire has been driven with 0 pressure, there's a good chance the tire may have some damage within the sidewall. Unless the owner tells you specifically it's been run with 0 pressure, it's a gamble.
I would get the two unpatched tires, and purchase two new ones. I'd always be worried in the back of my mind if it's ok for me to run the car at higher/extended speeds. Good luck! |

what he said^
but honestly ive had a tire patched and plugged both done on one tire at ccw, and to each his own, but at high speeds the tire was fine, at low the tire was fine, also depends on the quality of the work. like he said its a gamble but i never had issues with mine

However, the OP is buying a set of tires, and it's unknown how that tire was driven when it got a flat. Did the owner get to a repair station with a slow leak with no driving in zero pressure? Did the previous owner drive 100 miles on zero? That's the risk. |

The tire didn't go flat, they found the small nail in the tread while taking it off the wheel at Discount Tire. That's when they decided to patch & plug it! There are 2- 225/40-18 & 1- 255/35/18 ZP ,90Y ( all 3 for $300)! I'm planning on different 18" wheels but wasn't sure if I wanted to run RFTs like I'm running now!

I wouldn't do it unless the seller can show you the invoice proving what he claims. Otherwise, you are just taking his word that's what happened. You would still be trusting him that it wasn't driven with low pressure prior to that. I'd pass, but it's up to you. |
