Nokia N95

Anyone tried the new Nokia N95 with their E90?

I've been waiting for this phone for a while and I'd be interested to see if it pairs up well with the car and whether there's any issues. There are mixed stories on the I-Drive/Electronics forum so just wondering if anyone down-under has had any luck with the N95

My phone shop told me any Nokia Nxx (or so-called the X series) will not work properly with E90 bluetooth. My N73 can only make and receive calls, it doesn't pair the phone book nor show incoming IDs.

Sh*t ... really ? I thought the XDA (I'm assuming O2 Atom) was 100% compatible ? My brother-in-law has an i-mate JasJar, which we tried in my E90 and it paired perfectly ...

I wonder if it is the BMW bluetooth implementation or these phones which have not implemented the profiles correctly ?

I have tried a number of phones to see how they "pair" on the E90. I am optimistic that most new Nokia's will pair successfully – ie connection and phone book.

Cheers.

i have the XDA IIs Black... it isn't the smart phone, it's the PDA one... when i synch it with my car (if infact it feels like doing it that day), it 50% of the time will un-synch when i call is answered, so i havbe to pick up the phone, rendering the bluetooth useless! another problem is, if it actually synchs, and it stays that way (extrememly rare), people either tell me i am screaming at them, when i'm not, or wispering, when i'm not... it is just plain unreliable

also, when my dad's phone is near my car, it takes over from my phone, making me have to completely reset my bluetooth, and often re programme it, it's becoming a joke!

i would of thought since the e46, all of you guys that have e90s would have had that problem solved, but unfortunately, bmw has failed to deliver on the bluetooth front

I think the only people able to answer this question would be BMW. Personally, I'd stick to a basic nokia or motorola phone if you want to get the best functionality out of the BMW bluetooth system. (The BMW Bluetooth system was designed by Motorola)

Most basic Nokia phones will pair but these super sophisticated GPS, PDA, door opening and back scratching intergrated units are not able to take full advantage of the BMW Bluetooth. The problem is not the phone and not BMW. it's more a fact that as new phones get released, BMW needs to update the bluetooth firmware in your car to accept the data mapping and they would be updating weekly.
All bluetooth phones should be able to make and receive calls bacause everyone uses a standard for this bluetooth function. The trick is that adress books, caller ID ect require data mapping.

Trouble is BMW will get out their list of compatible phones and it’s always the Nokia 6230i – an old model.

I always try before I buy.

Cheers.

I have paired my N95 successfully with my 335i coupe, although the phone book function isn't working right.

vgr02: Not necessarily. My E90 330i cannot even pair with the N95. It's definitely the problem with BMW bluetooth firmware.

I have N95 and pairs fine with my E90 335xi, but as others have said, no phone book. Probably need to wait for software upgrade from Nokia or BMW

Kev, can you tell us if any of the contacts that are stored on your phone SIM card are transferred to the car? Apparently, any contacts stored on your SIM card will be able to be downloaded via bluetooth and accessible in your car's contacts list. Supposedly it is only the contacts stored in your phone's memory which I-Drive can't access, due to a memory mapping issue - the SIM card interface is supposedly a standard interface.

I am close to buying an N95 - if the above workaround is valid, then I'll probably bite the bullet ... I really love the N95.

shipill: don't know about the software version. I got the car a week ago

For those who are considering getting teh N95 - beware of battery performance - full charge last only 1 day!!

Here's a twist. My Nokia 6230i paired fully with the iDrive. Then I had my iDrive software upgraded two weeks ago to the latest version. When I tried to use the phone three days later, the dial tone was crackly and the connection was virtually non-existent. I tried deleting the pairing and then t pair the phone and car again. Try as I may I couldn't get the car to broadcast to the phone (phone never saw the car). Took it back to the dealer and tonight they've said that the new iDrive software is incompatible with my 18-month old Nokia software and that I need to update the phone's software. Hitch is, there isn't an update for the Nokia 6230i. If this is, in fact, the cause, my BMW has upgraded me out of my phone.
