Lost my primary key fob on NYE backups battery dead

I don't have comfort access so there is no battery to replace. Dealer said I can't get used keys programmed and have to buy a new one from the dealer for 160. Is this true? Any other fixes?

All of a sudden now when I hit lock/unlock the inside lights come on and so do the door handles but the car doesnt actually lock or unlock. It must be sending some type of signal. Anyone know how to reprogram the key. I tried searching but didn't see anything and didn't see anything in my idrive menu either.

You can't reprogram the key yourself. Also $160 sounds just the key, no programming. I hope I am wrong for your sake.

Have you tried the metal key in the fob? What about the spare plastic key/fob in the glove box?

if you take the metal key out of your fob you can unlock the doors manually and at least get inside and see whats going on..

I'm confused, can't you just use the metal key to the open the car and charge the key?

Dealer told me 230 for key replacement, that's new fob, cutting key and programming.

I only have one key, I don't think t battery is bad, I think I dropped it to many times. It works when it wants.

anybody know a dealer where I can just get fob and programming and I'll just use my key on new fob?

Guys you could replace the battery yourself, Their is a little trap door in the back of the key holding the battery. Pop it open then go buy the same battery at best buy. This is what i did so dont spend $100-200-500 on a key when its a $5 fix.

BTW the car does not charge the key thats a myth that nobody can prove.

I mean I don't have a soldering gun lol. But if the lights go on I mean the battery can't be dead right?

Btw I do use the metal key to get in and lock/ unlock the car. It still drives. Just annoying

Are you saying that your remote will start the car but it won't unlock the doors? Is that what this is all about?

I called BMW of bayside, they told me you don't have to program the keys. I find this really hard to believe.

He said all I have to do is open the door with the blade key and then insert fob into slot and it programs to the car ?

Get a soldering gun at RadioShack and prob the battery too.
Spend $20 might save you $160.
I am still not sure why everybody is telling him to replace the battery instead of it just recharging in the key slot with the motor running on a longer trip. I know if it were CA, it's an easy replacement, but he doesn't have CA so it recharges in the slot.

Maybe your CAS is faulty.

But yea like others have said, try soldering in a new battery.

Can you unlock doors via the central locking button? If not, check fuses.

Thanks for the maturity.

I was under the impression that it was a CA equipped car we were talking about.

Carry along with the thread.

When I got an extra key from Hassel BMW they told me programming was easy it was just a series of unlocking and locking. I don't recall exactly what, but it was something like unlock car with existing key, get inside, close door. Unlock and lock with new key, insert new key in car, turn on, and that's it.

I don't recall exactly though, maybe call another dealer to confirm?

I used to be a tech for Hassel, and this is the standard method of programming keys. Did it so much I can do it in my sleep
