Installing Aero Lip - What tape to get and where to put?
Im going to pick up some 3m tape today to install the Aero lip. Before I do so, is there any specific type which I need to look for? Also, are there specific areas it nees to be stuck?
I just dont feel like driving 62 miles to get the tape kit from the dealer. ![]() |

I just bought the brand they had at lowes that was rated for outdoor use. I think it was 1 inch wide. There is main aero lip thread where someone marked with red on a picture where they put the tape. Very little is needed.

has anyone had issues of it flying off or anything. That is my worst fear, of a part flying off due to tape losing its stickyness. Also is it hard to take the tape off since it is suppose to be strong?

if you heat up the area with a blow dryer for a few minutees you should be able to get it off with some patience. I have 4 strips about 3 inches long each, holding mine on just fine.

For the inside parts there is actually a little indentation in the piece that you can put two strips of tape in that are about 3 inches long. Then just put another two strips on the very outside of the piece and you should be fine. I used 4 pieces of tape to do the whole thing. No problems at all @ 500 miles it hasn't moved. |

Check my signature of my mod journal. It shows how to install the aero lip with 3M tape. Also, pay extra attention to the center big "V" gap. It's a aero lip, eventually it will moved out a little bit due to down force.
You can pm me your e-mail so I can send you a zip with a lot other member's aero lip pictures that I collected. To be honest, using adhesive is better and leave very less gap. However, you will not be able to take it out if you want to repaint or sell your front lip in the future. FYI: ACS vs OEM Aero lip in 2nd picture http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61446 |

I'm going to use this when I get my front lip. Walgreens and Target carries it, so I'm sure you can easily find it at other places, too.
3M Scotch Exterior Mounting Tape, 1" x 60". This is what holds my front plate, too. |

This is not strong enough. The one my body shop use is way thicker. Remember, its a aero front lip, it's not a roof spoiler or trunk lip. The tape can hold it but eventually it will leave a small gap between the joins.

Yea agree.
![]() Check the mod journal in my signature. It shows where I put the 3M tape. Oh also, don't forget to get 2 extra screws from the dealer or pepboy to secure your bumper. There's pre-drilled 2 extra holes there. Most likely you will have to take out 5-6 screws (i forgot) from the bottom of your current bumper then put on your lip with 2 extra screws. |

Ok, still confused by these responses. I just want to know what thickness tape to get
![]() That red roll was only 1.5mm....thats REALLY thin. If i need thin tape, let me know. The roll I am about to go buy is from a paint shop and is 0.3" thick (7.6mm). Is this going to make the lip not sit flush with the bumper? |

You can never go wrong with a body shop. If they use that 3M, it should be fine.
