335 rattle when first turning the car on

I have a 2007 335xi it has a cat back exhaust and dci. When I frist turn my car on and give a little gas and let go there's a rattle that sounds like its coming from the stock blowoff valves but once the cars been on for 2 mins it stops. If anyone has an idea on what it could be Please Share

it's most likely wastegate rattle. Mine's really bad too...particularly noticeable on a cold start. Unfortunately it's a common thing, especially for older models. Not sure how to fix it (other than trying to get them replaced under warranty somehow). But i also understand that they're only covered under factory warranty, and they replace the entire turbo instead of just fixing the wastegate. Not sure how to help though

do the golf tee mod, i'm betting that's the noise your hearing, its very common and does go away when the car commands the flap to open

Had a rattle which was prominent in my garage. I isolated it to the diver side rear. Took it in and they replaced the muffler. Fixed.

That's even better I got the "rattle" as well. I only have CPO warranty, but I'm still gonna go cry and complain at the dealer next week.

Let me know how that goes? I'm in the same predicament. I did the golf tee mod for temporary solution but would love to get that flap fixed.

I had a long but productive week. My car has been in the shop (BMW dealer) for about 3 days, and the following is the result:

Complaint: limp modes twice last week, car shook like a raging bull
Dealer: replaced 5 injectors - I had "old style" injectors, and the remaining one I had it replaced a few months ago for its own issue.

Complaint: oil filter housing gasket shows visual leaks
Dealer: replaced 2 gaskets that are attached to the oil filter housing unit, filled and bled coolant afterwards

Complaint: exhaust rattle
Dealer: exhaust flap worn out and faulty, not covered under CPO warranty (I don't know about regular warranty tho)

Complaint: turbo/wastegate rattle (I had to prove to the tech that the sound was coming from the FRONT of the car, not the back as that would mean exhaust problem
Dealer: turns out, I had "old style" turbos as well. NEW TURBOS AND WASTEGATES!!

Trying to get new turbo required a little bit of.. *cough cough*... "effort" to convince to the tech and SA. It seemed that they really tried hard to get the turbo coverage approved by BMW, i.e. they have to take them out, measure some parameters, write a report that this is beyond tolerance, etc... Very very lucky to have met these particular guys to help me out. I know, I know... let me ask for permission to disclose their info, and get back if it's all good.

Btw the car rides soooo much smoother, and the idling sputter is about 80% gone.

A little bit off topic, but I've had a little bit of a problem with wastegate rattle in my time and maybe you guys could help me out...

I've already had my turbos replaced once, and then the rattle came back, so they adjusted the wastegates. Since then, I've had some rattling but just decided it was tolerable and it will just recurr and I dont' have time to mess with it.

However, I recently installed some AR cattless DP's and the wastegate rattle is that much louder... I took it in to BMW today and they said that with my Dinan flash and cattless downpipes, they can't get approval to adjust the wastegates (I would need to put my original DP's and stock software back on). But doing just that would probably cost me $500 for the uninstall/flash and then install/flash.

Anyone have a fix for this yet? I've heard one person on this forum fixed the wastegate rattle with a C-clip (popular among Subaru owners), and then there is the Mr5 fix... any other solutions?

Maybe this is God telling me it's time for a new turbo (single turbo )
