Accelera?

Hi

I can pretty much guess the answer to this but just thought I'd check.

Basically I got a quote for some new wheels and tyres and the Accelera tyres are a good £300 less than Falken. The sales guy said he liked them and tried to push them over the more expensive tyre which threw me a bit.

I have allways beleived if it sounds too good to be true it normally is and I've had bad experiences with high power rear wheel drive and cheap tyres before.

What do you think?

Nick

No. Not on a 300 BHP car.

Falkens are the cheapest tyre that I would consider putting on any car. Anything substantially cheaper will be chinese crap.

echo the comments above - Falkens at an absolute minimum

I wouldn't even fit those personally on a 335i (maybe on a 320D or similar) but thats just down to personal preference, I know a lot run them and are very happy with them.

i just had a set of falkens for my 18" staggered for my 335i, £380 delivered plus £60 for fitting. Not worth going budget when these were so cheap. Incidentally this was the first time ever I have put a set of new tyres on and noticed a difference straight away (over the standard runsh1ts), money well spent.

Read the latest EVO tyre test in this months edition, Accelera came a distant last with some 'interesting' comments, as always with cheap tyres they were crap under braking and in the wet. Check out Hankook S1 evo (K107), they came second and were very much liked and are substantially cheaper than the big names still.

For what its worth (and I'll probably get shot down in flames for this) I have used Falken and thought they were fair at best, they seemed OK new and for the first few thousand miles but went off very quickly and became rather noisy as they got older. After 3-4k miles I had little confidence in them in the wet.

This was my exact same experience with them. Falkens also turn into jelly on a track day.

I was looking for feedback on Acceleras as I had them on my Alfa and thought they were quite good. Seeing as Raj is making me think about running multiple sets of wheels I thought about a set of Acceleras as a set of cheap alternatives.

Granted the BM is twice as powerful and its probably a recipe for disaster but just wondered if anyone had actually run them on a 335?

When you are heading backwards into a ditch with the Acceleras on, think back to this thread. Seriously though, You do get what you pay for when it comes to tyres.

It's just not worth the risk.

Granted tyres are pretty expensive, but for most average drivers they last a fair amount of time.

Saving a couple of hundred quid every year isn't enough to scrimp on tyres for me.

Exactly mate, you can make your car fast as feck but, you have just the one point of contact with the road, make it a good one.

Given front's last for ages, I'd not bother skimping on them.
Given the rears put down all the power, I'd not skimp on them either!

Contis, PSS, Eagle F1s all well proven

Hankooks and Kumho's are probably the most budget you should go on a 335.

On 18's

Pilot Sport 4's
Front - £95 - https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyr...r18-92y-448154
Rear - £130 - https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyr...r18-94y-448141

Eagle F1 3's
Front - £80 - https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyr...r18-92y-443743
Rear - £120 - https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyr...r18-94y-443748

£400 for a set of Eagle F1-3's + fitting. £450 for PS4s. Why bother with budget which wear at twice the rate?

Count yourself lucky with those prices. The M3 size is ridiculous, probably because they know pretty much only the M3 runs those sizes

I've got Accelera fitted to my car (from when I bought it), only good for gentle Road driving. Noisy and poor grip on damp roads.

Going for Dunlop RT2's all around when the time comes

At the end of the day it's a couple of hundred quid from Toyo's on oponeo, reality check thanks guys.

I've got the scars to prove scrimping on tyres is not wise when my mate rolled his Renault 5 15 years ago, the only contact point with the road has been a big point for years.

What the hell was I thinking?!

Yeah its really not worth the risk, and I'd never get anything rated below a A for wet grip now.

My old civic had a pair of Avons fitted at the front (brand new) when I bought the car. Absolute garbage, could barely do 25mph around a corner when wet and the traction control would go berserk - replaced with Goodyear Eagle F1's and there was a huge improvement

I'm having a set of F1's fitted this week. 17's are only about £75....not bad. As has been said, it's your only contact with the road. Might just save your life.

Looked at the Uniroyal Rainsports as well....wet grip looks awesome.

Mate of mine has just spent thousands restoring his old VW camper. I did mention to him, that after all that work and expense, why was he running it on cheap and nasty rubber. He couldn't see the problem, as they were new!

Damn, I wish I was running on 17s sometimes lol. Replacement for all 4 of my 19s is going to cost me £650+

I've got a matching set of non RFT Continental Contact Sport 3 on my remapped and lowered 330d.
Yes they're not cheap at £700 a set, but I got over 32k out of my fronts, and the rears are now coming up to 30k too!
I replaced the fronts last month and the fitter was amazed at how even they had worn and couldn't believe how many miles they had done.
The fronts still had a few thousand more miles in them really. I would of kept them on for a bit longer but was about to do a 700 mile round trip to Cornwall so decided to do them before we went
