The infamous clunk from the front, any ideas?

I posted this awhile back but didn't ever get any help so I figured to try again. I'm on stock suspension with supreme power lowering perches, car went over a pothole few months back and I've been getting a clunk over bumpy roads, etc.

Took my wheels off to inspect, seems good, took it to my alignment shop he said everything was nice and tight. Said it could be swaybar endlinks going bad (how can you tell? if its structurally stable), or strut mounts?

I decided I will just order ST coilovers, but if this doesnt resolve the issue, should I go ahead and replace the other two parts (swaybar links, strut mounts) as well while I have the car apart?

This clunk definitely bothers me enough! please help!

Did they look at the shocks? Below was the source of my "clunk".

I subsequently changed to ST Coilovers.

Front thrust arm bushings. Replace them with M3 bushings - direct fit. Also make sure they tighten the thrust arm and control arm bolts with the suspension LOADED - car on the ground/alignment rack. It takes more effort, and I've seen several cars come in lately (including an M6) where the suspension installer (not us) was too lazy to take the time to torque thrust arm bushing / control arm bushing bolts with the suspension loaded. Result is premature failure of the bushings.

Thanks for the help guys, I will look into the bushings and check the struts itself. I see oil/grease all over, that's the sign correct?

If its a clunk, in my experiance, its been endlink or bushing related (in my case, a front control arm bushing). If its more of a "hiss when hitting a bump" sound, its usually a blown/leaky shock absorber.

I had problems with my SP perch making
Clunking noises. So took it off and it solved the problem.

I never thought about the perches itself causing the problem. Thanks for all the input guys!

most likely the sway bar endlinks or shock upper bolt is loose.

I recently started getting a clunking noise from front end. I've got about 15k on my pss9's. The coil overs seem fine. I had to take it into dealer for a battery replacement and I had them look at it. Its pretty loud. They hooked up some kind of sound devices and made the determination that it seems to be coming from somewhere around the top hat of my coil over. They wouldn't pull it off because it's aftermarket. I'm kind of lost now and the problem remains. He inspected all of the arms and sway bars in the front end. I physically went in the service bay and he walked me through what he did. He sounded knowledgeable. He said in the end a good camber plate might fix the problem. IDK. I wish someone would just say yep it's this so I can fix it. Because after today's battery replacement, brake fluid change, micro filter replacement and a couple of hours of troubleshooting, I am $900 broker and I still have a noise. Anyone know a good shop in Bellevue, WA area?

my vote is for the strut mount and having bad bearings.

I had this issue with my g35 and it was the end link.

Bad bearings? My car is mostly garaged and has only 35k miles. This is one of the reasons I'm baffled. If I had like 70k on it, I could see bushings going bad. My car is probably the cleanest, most preserved 08 335 I've ever seen.

My set up does the same thing. I have all of the M3 bits with Hotchkiss away bars and Xbrace with TC Kline double adjustable shocks and swift springs. I'm thinking it's the end links because that's the only part that I bought used. It's going into the shop next week. I will keep you guys updated on what it was.

Well turns out the noise is gone after we installed some ST V1 Coilovers, . It could've been the perches or maybe something within the top strut mount was loose.

I used the clunk excuse to do this

Any updates, was that the issue?
