Forged Wheels

I've just ordered a set of BBS RGRs for my 335xi after much consideration of several alternatives.

I had decided early on that I wanted forged wheels for light weight and strength. I have bent two ASA cast wheels on potholes or rocks in the past three years, and while the OEM wheels on my 335xi (162s) are probably a lot stronger than the ASAs, they're 30lbs each!

I looked at both Fiske (Profil 5S) and Neez (QD7) forged wheels - both light and very high quality, but the prices! $4500-$6000 per set

I also looked at the coming Morr forged VS7 wheel which was attractive at $2250 with the GB. However, this is an unproven wheel and frankly I didn't like the tone of the posts from Morr in the Neez dealer's pic thread on this forum. Very unprofessional and too many unsubstantiated claims on the part of Morr.

For me that left BBS. No doubt about the quality, and in fact with the new "gold series" being produced in Japan, that's a plus for quality. At $672 each for an 18x8.5 forged wheel that comes in at 18.5lbs, it seems like a no brainer.

I realize all this doesn't address the comparative looks of each wheel, but that is very subjective. In fact, I liked the looks of all the wheels I considered.

Someone else on this forum commented recently on the BBS RGRs as "same ol, same ol, but looks good". A valid critcism, but then the 7 or 8 split spoke wheels like the RGR, VS7, Neez QD7 or CSLs all look very similar. In the looks department, my favorite was the Fiske Profil 5S but at $1150 each, they're just too expensive.

Anyway, that's my thought process on forged wheels. I'll post some pics once my wheels are mounted.
