Steering wheel lock issue

Hey Fellas,

So my car wouldnt start because of the stupid steering wheel lock issue. I\'ve had the yellow lock icon on my car for about 1 1/2 year and will start with no problem but then this past saturday it turned red an wouldnt start at all. To make a long story short i tried everything from disconnecting/reconnecting the battery to removing the steering wheel column and unlocking the lock mechanism but still no luck
Now, before i take it to the dealership I was wondering if you guys had any other recommendation or maybe suggest a dealership that i can go to and charge me less or even better not charge me at all (no warranty).
I think its a really dumb issue to begin with and a known issue with the earlier e9x models that BMW wont recall coz they have not received that much complaint from NHTSA (5 complaints so far including my self).
I was just hoping that i will have another luck in fixing this issue and not have to break the bank with something that shouldn\'t fail to begin with.

Any suggestions/recommendations would greatly be appreciated.

P.S. i might bring my car to Bill Jacobs in Naperville since its the closest one to me (Geneva).

hey mic...

i know 2 techs that could help you out. ill try to get a quote today and let you know. you should probably call the dealership just to get an idea of what they would charge to see how much you could possibly save.

Isn''t there a service bulletin for this? i think its close to a grand from the dealer well i had this done back in 06 so prices parts may have changed.
