Stuff to do in Chi-town
WHattup everybody, I am going to be in Chicago for President's weekend and would love to hear some ideas for stuff to do. I am going to be with my girlfriend, so unfortunately cant go t oany meets haha.
But seriously, any ideas for nice dinner spots/club spots/anything cool or unique about Chicago would be awesome. If it helps, I will be staying at the Dana Hotel.

Dana hotel is pretty cool. Check out the Vertigo lounge on the roof.
Also that is the last weekend of the auto show in case you want to check that out. |

What kind of food do you like/would you like to try? How old are you and what are you into? What is your gf into (besides you)?

Im 25, i like a good steak so I'd love to go to the best steakhouse chicago has to offer. My girlfriend likes cool brunch spots (preferably with unlimited drinks) and nice views of the city. Also, would like to check out Chicago nightlife so any good clubs would be cool as well. Thanks for all the input guys.

Check out the Hancock Signature Lounge for a place to have a drink (for more than anyone should ever pay for one though) and fantastic views of the city/lake.

Gary is right on...best views in the city but pricey. If you want to impress you can dine in the Hancock too. Views are great but food is meh for the price.
Steaks are going to be subjective but some good spots to try in no order: Smith and Wollensky (but those originated in NY) Gene & Georgetti's: http://www.geneandgeorgetti.com/menu_home.php Chicago Chop House: http://www.chicagochophouse.com/ Morton's: http://www.mortons.com/ Not necessarily a "steak" joint, but one of my fav's lately has been Quay: http://quaychicago.com/ You'll have to get a pizza that you'll hate because it isn't thin crust, but just so you can say you did from Gino's East or somewhere like it. Hot dog from Byrons or Gold Coast Dogs or similar. Maxwell street polish is a must. Italian Beef from Al's (only because its downtown compared to some better places). I'll let the younger guys get you clubbin/fun.

Another good steak place with a chicago old school elitist 1% scene is Gibsons. A new Ian Schrager hotel opened in Goldcoast Public, good bar scene in the Pump Room.
Other good options and new hot dining spots that are worth your time: Mercadito- near downtown Revelution Brewing- Bucktown GT Fish and Oyster Aja Check in the TimeOut Chicago as well, and also the Reader for live bands and music scene, like NY Village Voice. If weather is decent, take the architecture boat tour offered by Windella at base of Mich Ave bridge over Chicago River. Art Institute is nice if weather is bad and you want some culture, or the Shedd Aquarium. Bucktown is a hip fun younger scene, more similar to LES/Gumbo area of NY. Good Brunch southern style is Wishbone. You could hit Auto show and also take train via China Town... Also on Goldcoast at Rush and Pearson is a Bentley/Lambo dealer thats a cool showroom to salivate over some nice rides. Its 1 block west of the Hancock. |

I vote Gibson's, one of the best steaks I've had, and the double baked potato is money, good wine selection, good service. I would also say check out the signature lounge before/ after for a few drinks and great view, but don't eat there, food sucked imo and was way overpriced. If you want to go out after I'm 26 and prefer old town or river north. I've been hitting up Benchmark on north and wells a lot lately. Also another fun option may be to check out second city if your into comedy. I've only been once but it was a great time.

Oh and you should definitely check out Duffy's for brunch sat & sun 10-3. $20 bucks unlimited brunch buffet, the food selection is great, pretty much everything you can imagine, breakfast food, wings, crab legs, ribs, etc, unlimited mimosas, I got shit faced last time lol.

If you've got the hankering for a Chicago hot dog after the bar/club, head up to the Weiner Circle in Lincoln Park and enjoy one with a chocolate shake. Worth every penny.
