Keyed

This seems to be the "forever" thread. Well, as long as there are pricks out there, anyway.
Yeah, I got the "gift" today. Unreal.
Anyway- are there any questions I should ask the body shop?
Anything I should look for, etc?
I'll go to the dealer in the morning- not sure if they have a body shop or not.
I'm in New Hampshire and I don't think there are many good shops- just a feeling I get.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Repairs

About a 12" long scratch (deep) on the driver door.
They left the pen they used on the ground- they must have pushed really hard.
My dealer has a repair facility so I can only hope they will do a good job.
I plan on being there first thing in the morning.

If the dealer you are taking it to is Tulley in Nashua, they do have a body shop. They fixed my front bumper. They did a great job.

Thanks

Yeah, went to Tulley this morning.
About 14" long scratch, and as I said, deep.
$987
He said they would have to paint both doors, but could leave the front fender, as the scratch is just far enough away to allow them to blend on the door.
4 days for the repair.
And people wonder why I hate people?

$987!?!?!? Why are they painting both doors? I thought it was just one scratch on your driver's side.

Yeah... i don't know where you guys go up there... I had a mercedes e-class front passenger-side fender repaired (huge dent) and re-painted for $300... and I get door-dings removed for $45 each or an entire panel for $150... you guys need to shop around a little

Sorry to hear man. My co-worker's E92 328i has a 15" long key down the hood. It is extremely painful to see. I'm a bit worried about leaving my car out there, so I've been driving my E46 around.

You should have the CSI unit checking that pen for fingerprints! Might be some petty punk who happens to have a record and his prints are on file. Then you could kill him like the cockroach he is.....

But anyway, damned sorry to hear this anytime it happens to anyone - regardless what car they drive. Best of luck with the repair.

Expensive, I agree

He said that the scratch (and it is deep- I know I keep saying that!) is about 14" long and because it is about 10 inches from the fender, he can leave the fender. But, because it is almost to the rear door he can't blend on the door, so he has to repaint (some, I'd imagine) the rear door.
He mentioned that the door handle has to come off, there are airbags in the door which may need to be re-set, that taking off the interior door panel is very time consuming, etc.
He stated 4 days- probably 2, but if clips (or another part, etc) break, that may add a day or two.
The color is Arctic, which he said is not easy to blend- which I would tend to agree with, but I'd imagine most colors (metallic) can be tough.
Clearly, it's a racket- just like the doctor or hospital is.
But ultimately, I want the car fixed and fixed right.
I pay $900/year insurance. I'm 41, have 4 cars and a motorcycle (and my house) insured with them, haven't had a ticket or accident (knock on wood) in 15+ years, etc.
I think $900 is a lot- I live in a very rural area, etc. The fact that the car gets about 3500 miles/year is not the insurance companies fault.
Anyway, I think that's a lot for the repair, but sometimes (often) you get what you pay for.

damn. people in america are just fucked up. scratch that, people everywhere! why! WHY! the fuck would you do that! ahh. thats why im SERIOUSLY considering seting up cameras in my car. but why go through it. i dont have to worry, in trinidad we never heard of keying a car and i wish it to remain that way!

except. when people are set on destroying your car like that, they just take a cigarette and push it on the car. trust me, that does some damage. at least my car is AW and not TiAg!

well you can add mine to the list.

Someone left me a nice one on the driver's door in Flushing this evening. And I remember two pricks eyeing the car soon after I pulled up. The POS they were sitting in next to me was gone and so were they...

I parked in front of my own house and came out to wash my car for the second time that week ( I have a Black Sapphire) and saw along the whole side, I mean from the rear quarter panel across both doors and on to the front fender was a NICE key mark. What a bunch of assholes.. Guess this ad is really true.. haha

Sucks.

you either get keyed or someone slams their door on yours while parked.
