Red Light Ticket - NYC
Got a red light ticked via mail with pic. Apparently, i had gone into the intersection along with other cars when the red light had been on for....wait for it.... .33 of a second.... Anyway, it's a $50 fine, but i wanted to see if anyone else had been in this situation. Please respond if you have, thanks.

i'd say pay it and get it over with but if you feel strongly against it then fight it to the death. to answer your question yes i got one in a different area, the guy in front of me stopped for no apparent reason and i got caught in the middle of the intersection when the light turned. appealed it, claimed "it was unsafe for me at that point to stop or reverse my vehicle in the middle of the intersection as it would have been cause for a possible accident", worked for me but not all states treat you the same just be ready for an oral presentation.

I wouldn't appeal it if I were you. If they deny your appeal they can issue you points as well since you would have to declare yourself as the driver of the vehicle at the time of the ticket.

No points, pay the $50. 3 seconds or 0.333, you're technically guilty so just pay and be over it. The frustration if appearing / waiting at court is not worth $50 imo.

im pretty sure, it has nothing to do with your license since there is no way to prove who was driving; therefore no points.

I'm saying that's why it's not a good idea to fight it and appear in court. you're going to have to admit you were the driver of the car so the judge can easily decide to issue you points.

it doesnt really work like that. Its like a parking ticket - you send them the info proving your case and you get a decision emailed. Court is for moving violations - red lights cameras are in no way connected to your license, just the registration.

My mistake then, I've been told before by several people when you try to fight a camera ticket you can get points since you're admitting you were the driver.

no, it is held in the same regard as a parking ticket (actually less expensive than most parking tickets). To appeal, you can appear in person, by mail, or by internet. same rules as parking tickets and never any points or anything related to your license - i checked.
