Diagnostic software/leads
Searching through various threads I am pulling my out.
I am looking to buy software/lead that will enable to read codes and reset service lights/force a regen etc I have had my airbag light come on in the past which I have taken to an independant who reset it for me for £20 (it took him 30 secs to do) as the wire under the seat became loose. So I am after something that will enable me to do this myself. I am not looking at sofware/leads that allow you do coding as I think thats too advanced for me. But something that will allow me to scan for error codes from time to time to ensure my car is running fine. From my reading there are some people who have bought off ebay (loads of leads and not sure which one to go for) ranging from £30+ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Diagno...item19cd67c599 Then there is the BT tool but I presume you can only buy this from the states (Bavarian Tech themselves) http://www.bavariantechnic.com/buy.aspx Then you have the general code readers on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBDII-DTC-...item20c2675135 Can anyone help? |

If not go for option two. You can use it with inpa or DIS. More freedome and less restrictions. |

Blue cable alone is not enough to read the codes. You need software to read the codes. INPA is the software which experienced users use it and you get the code. Later you search it online to see what actually is it. DIS is more sort of dealership software, which is very tricky to install. However it gives you code and the detail of the code. More user friendly. IF you want the blue cable, search the package, where you can get one with cable + inpa or cable + DIS. |

if you cannot get one, have INPA or DIA with any of these cables. If the seller provide you with warranty and support, you should give it a try. Some American companies are selling the same cables for 100+ dollars, and believe me, their cables come from china too. All the best. |

I will have a look at cable and software as you mentioned but never bought any diagnostic software bit and you do read some instances where something has gone wrong. But then again if another kit can do the same as a BT tool then that would sway me

Ebay sellers usually take 24-48 hours to reply so be patient. Will be interested to know the findings. B/W I have both inpa and DIS.

From my understanding, the 3 vin tool allows up o 3 cars. Each time you use it will ask to put the vin in and up to 3 vins are allowed. I think the professional one is unlimited cars (but this one does cost a lot more £££). The software I think you download from BT website themselves once you have the cable - not to sure if it comes with the disc
