Silly Audi A8 (v 335i)
No big story, just put an arrogant A8 4.2L driver in his place at highway speeds.
Where is that thread about people who think they have fast cars but don't? |

Not to be rude, but I wonder if the "arrogant" A8 driver truly cares. Hell, tell him that if he wants to make the race closer, he can have my car, and i'll take his.

Well put. I let a guy in a Saturn blow by me on the highway today. Does that mean I've been put in my place?

Lol, spacedogg.
I, too, humbled an A8 4.2 driver. He was serious in his attempt at passing me since he did some questionable lane changes at the expense of others to pass a bunch of people. Once I was clear I chased him down and easily overtook him. I was sure to smile at him as I went by. |

He was riding my azz hard in traffic and kept looking for a race with eye contact. I let him pass and get in front of me. As soon as traffic cleared, he punched it hard. I did as well and went right around him.
Arrogant? Perhaps that was a stretch, but it was clear to me he wanted to run and had that entitled air about him including the classic tilt down of the sunglasses to make eye contact Unfortunately, it was not the W12...that would have been funner. As far as his car, you can have an A8, overpriced and uncompetitive in their segment. |

Are you serious? Since the latest generation's release, it's won nearly every head to head comparo of the elite german sedans (until the new S classcame out this year). Overpriced and uncompetitive? Who are YOU kidding. It's also cheaper than its competitors by a pretty nice margin.

Twice now, within the last two months or so, I've seen an older lady driving a big silver A8 with her damn REAR FOG LIGHT ON. Both times, it was sunny out, and she must have been annoying the driver behind her. The stupid thing is quite bright, even in the sun. It'd probably be even more annoying at night.
Whoever it is, I guess she goes home the same way as I do from work. If I see her again, I want to tell her to turn the damn thing off. She must not realize it's on. Other than that, I like the A8.

The problem with Audi is they are priced in the same league as the big boys in the States, but are considered barely above VW in Europe. They are not an elite, but priced as such here. Look at the depreciation hit you take on an Audi, the classic sign of being overpriced: 2006 BMW 750i 20K miles, excellent condition, standard equipment, trade-in value per Kelley Blue Book = $58,700 2006 Audi A8 20K miles, excellent condition, standard equipment, trade-in value per Kelley Blue Book = $43,325 |

"It centralizes too many accessory functions into a single console control, and the adjustable air suspension can't seem to deliver an optimal ride/handling balance. But overall, the A8 is a formidable adversary to any rival's flagship sedan. Audi trails BMW and Mercedes-Benz for prestige and resale value, but the A8 trumps its European competitors for interior decor, standard all-wheel drive, and base price. That qualifies it as a premium large car Best Buy." It gave the BMW 750i 71/100 and the Audi A8 a 77/100. |

"Audi A8 dominating BMW 7-series in magazine comparison tests"
January 07 C&D places A8L second only to new S550 Motor trend did it in 04 when it was A8L, 745i, S430, LS430, Phaeton 58... A8L gets first place Road and track picked the 7 as its first pick.. But of course they would. Road and track loves cars that can actually take a corner. But of course, the A8L placed second It's hard to find a comparison to find the A8 not being first or second. Of course everyone has their own opinion. We share one on our choice of daily drivers, but I've got to go with the A8 as my big sedan of choice... well, actually, make that an S8.

no offense but i think your a bit to full of yourself, i love when people are driving and always think people give a shit what there doing or are amazed by them because most of the time the words that are coming out of there mouth is like :"what a dumbass", or "look at that moron". and if the guy had a car which you thought was not worth racing then why did you even bother. i get people trying to race me all day and if i dont want to i dont get pissed i just move a lane over and let them go. no biggie.

People pay for what they perceive has value. When you only have 4 or 5 cars in that class, there is less choice. You must compromise in some manner. Paying a premium for valued, but unique, features is one such compromise.
Magazine reviewers understand that, but still attempt to provide an objective comparison of the cars. If the Audi is considered barely above the VW in Europe, the European reviewers probably choose different valuing criteria than their American counterparts. If you compare what the two groups of reviewers offer in the way of criteria across cars of the same class, you'd probably discover some trend that suggests the differences in perceived value per feature. |
