Hi all.

What kind of discounts can be had from buying an approved used BMW dealer?

Cheers

I just got just under 8% off my car and then had a years tax, full tank of fuel thrown in on top of that.

Depends on how they have priced the car so there isn't a generalisation.

Depends on the car.

I got them down from £36500 on my 335i sport touring to £31k.
Then on the X1 only managed to knock a grand off.

Got the 5GT down from £38,000 to £32,000, obviously loads to play with with that one.

There was a nice, extremely well specced 330d sport touring 10 plate that I was looking at back in Nov time and that was up at £27,000, in the end they came back and said £22k and they would take my X1 and pay £1000 over book for it.

Then you call about other cars and they won't give you anything, so just move on.

Really is a case of call all the dealers and tell them what you want to pay, one of them will come back and say 'yeah'.

You just don't know where they are at with their targets etc. so there is no hard set rules.

Depends how much margin on the car GENERALLY of course.

I was thinking specifically about the 6 pot diesels.. My car had a trade value of 26k according to Glass' and I paid 27300 through AUC (was on for 28995) so I was relatively happy there anyway.

This was last week btw.

Just search "vauxhall cap" on the UK boards here.. There's a link to glass's in one of the replies as well. When you know what they likely paid for the car it gives you a good shot at negotiation...

Good luck with the hunt by the way..

Think mine worked out to about 7% discount, bought last month. As it was reasonably priced anyway i don't think that was too bad

Exactly, 10% off a well priced car is a good price, 30% off and over priced car may be a worse deal.

Print out the 3 cheapest cars from AUC and use that as negotiation.

I think I got 5%, which doesn't sound much now. It had not long been reduced but about the same amount though.

I guess (as already said) it depends on the dealer, the car and the day you go in. It's always worth trying imo. They can only say no.

But if they've got a car they know will fly out, that maybe harder.

I find it quite far off what i see cars listed for, eg, 07 E92 335i listed for £15k, CAP say ~£12k!

Does seem to be a fair bit off. Cap seemed to value the car i just traded in £1500 less and the car i just bought as £4000 less than what they actually went for.

CAP is Car Auction Prices

Glasses is a guide that shows trade ins, private sale and retail prices.

Many dealers will show you the CAP price for your trade in and that is fair enough if they are going to stick it in an auction, but of they are to retail it themselves ask to see Glasses, for your car too.
Usually quite a difference between the two.

I always say 'If we are going to use auction prices I may as well sell it myself and then buy one of these from somewhere else far cheaper than you are selling your for?'
They tend to start negotiating then.
