Tyres for drag racing?

I'm looking for suggestions for my tyre setup.

Currently running 18" Bridgestone RFT's all round which must be the worst for the strip, they don't really hold any heat in them.
I have a set of 19"s that I only use in the summer (not on the strip)

I don't know whether to buy a couple of wheels for the rear with proper drag radials on them, take them to the strip on the day, change them over and stick the 2 rears in the boot (Not sure how much effect the extra weight might have)

or

I could buy some stickier tyres and run them day to day, but I would be limited to safer sticky tyres as I run these in the winter, so I guess Toyo R888s are out of the window. (I have used michelin sports before on a Boxster and found these very sticky). I also need them to last a bit so that might limit my choices.

Another question is: Could I run RFTs on the front and non-RFT on the rear?

Thanks in advance

RFT front and non-RFT rear isn't a great idea. It probably won't kill you, and you'll probably be fine, but there's a chance the difference in handling characteristics could have some unexpected effects in a sticky situation.

If you have the funds, a second pair of rear wheels with R888s or equivalent would be ideal. The weight of the original wheels in the boot would help a little with traction off the line, and I can't see it making any real difference to your 1/4 mile time, not when you consider the rest of the car weighs hundreds of times more

+1, also remember that wheel spin is a easy way for the transmission to save itself from overload.

With uber sticky tyres on an uber sticky launchway, any ham fisted launches have nowhere to release the strain, just watch your props / diff / box etc!
