DCI opinion question....yes I said opinion....

OK i have a question regarding intakes.....

Is it worth the $ getting something like the injen, which seems very well engineered and designed or just something simple like the BMS is ok... I want to keep the car nice and classy and look like money was well spent not just cheap parts bought.... and thrown in the car.

Any thoughts??

Thanks,
Bruce

They all just make noise, some just cost more than others. The costlier ones makes you feel better about yourself when you pop the hood and show off, whether its CF or something shiny. Personally ill rather spend the money on two bmw coat hanger.

All DCIs yield similar gains. Pick the one that you like the best whatever the reason may be. I got an Injen because I like the way it looks.

This is my issue... I really want to keep it looking nice... and I think that the injen one really does a good job with the especiall the wrinkle black one.. looks almost stock like... but clearly not. And its not that I dislike the regular DCI i just think cleanliness wise the Injen seems to be the nicest option. Mind you its 350$+ which sucks..... pun intended...

If you are looking to spend that kind of money, take a look a the Stett CAI; it's a true CAI and works very well.

Yes, unfortunately it is one of the more expensive options. Also it has badges all over it. Not my cup of tea but they just peel off and I filed and sanded the logo off of the plastic duct. Will be finishing painting that soon.

Id like to see more on this one... seems like a nice design, and clearly they are correct by moving the filter to a lower colder air source tyou will get more power..

im not sure about the payout and design of their piping, looks like the charge pipe was part of the issue there, I will also need to replace that but they want 600$ for a charge pipe and blowoff. I dont think so..

but we shall see what I end up doing thanks for the info though... seems like a good option compared to injen. Im also worried that spending this $ might be a waste for the fact that I will being doing a single turbo kit and will these intakes ever fit/support that kind of upgrade.... thoughts??

If you do a search for the Stett, you can get a feel for what it will look like in the engine bay. I have one and the fit is tight, but I'm still using the stock chargepipe. I'm going to be adding some more mods to my car soon and will have to eventually change the CP, but I don't think that will be an issue.

FWIW, I've had the Stett CAI on since August of last year and driven the car through heavy rains and even snow, no issues with water getting to where the filter is.

Although it look nice, the Injen has the smallest filters and, for that reason, would not be my first choice.

Which brand name will look more aesthetically pleasing in your sig? My afe feels pretty cheap for what is worth (materials, connections), I got a good deal used though. I would have gone Stett CAI if my AA BOV wasn't sitting in the way.

You would need to be pulling absolutely MASSIVE amounts of air to exceed the CFM of one of those filters, let alone two of them.

Yes looked at that, but seems like an extreme amount to pay for a CAI... granted I know what kind of R&D went into it and production cost etc.. But thats still a bit out of my price range, I was trying to stay 350 or less.

If you really want to keep it classy and not kill your wallet I'd go with 2 smaller ones of these:

Injen is a good company, and build very good quality products. I would pick the Injen over the normal DCI.

You can progress with the Injen by having someone add extension piping down to the driver side airduct to feed on direct cooler air

I had an Injen and it was as bad on low-end torque as any DCI. I sold it after a few days and made myself a true cold air intake similar to Mr. 5. Couldn't be happier !

Compared with other DCI filters they are smaller. The element is 4.5" length x 5" base x 4" cap diameter.

Get a true CAI like STETT. That other Dinan CF copy doesn't look so quality inspired IMHO. I posted an earlier thread on it and it was agreed looks kinda cheap.

Or make one as mentioned earlier. Go to DIY section and Mr.5 intake is a great option of you're willing to do some dirty work. Will save you tons of $$.
