Will a custom exhaust void warranty
I have been looking to do a full 3" exhaust from the downpipes back with no mufflers or resonators on my 335i and I was wondering if that would void my CPO warranty? And if anyone has heard someone that has done what I want to do. Please give me some feed back on the sound.

It will only void the warranty on that area. i.e. they will still do the regular service (brakes oil change etc.) as required, but if something broke during the exhaust install or a component failed due to the new exhaust, you are on your own.

You should be fine. It would only void your warranty if your straight pipes are the direct cause of a problem.

I get it thank you. And do you think it will be too loud ? And I'm also putting active autowerke downpipes as well. So I don't know how much of a difference that would make.

There are way to many people on here that post up that their warranty was voided due to this or that.
The way the law is written regarding warranties is that any modification that is deemed to have caused the malfunction of a component does not need to be covered by warranty. Where it get's tricky is in the proof. It would be hard for a dealer to claim your aftermarket exhaust caused your transmission to fail or engine to fail, but it could cause issues with emissions or even possibly they could try to pin a turbo failure on it. Now if say a downpipe cracked because of your custom exhaust or your bumper melted etc, then it would be your fault and they would not pay. They can't blanket void your warranty, they will only void the warranty on the affected component due to the modification and in most cases you have the option to return to stock (say the car is getting a code or limping and they say it is your modification causing it, then you may return to stock and they will then need to fix the car or prove that the modification caused the issue). Some dealers seem to be more difficult than others, but then again it may just be the owners demanding unrealistic things and dealers getting sick of it. My dealer has never been an issue with mods, I tell them what is going on with the car for mods and have even gone to the dealer and removed a mod when they had issues flashing the car with it installed. The dealer voided my warranty posts for debadging my car are all crap and have a lot more too them than just dealer saw mod and denies all warranty service.

It will be extremely loud and annoying. yes if your engine blows, or your turbos you will be screwed out of your warranty work. Don't listen to someone saying "only things in that area," because that is utter bullshit. CPO covers main things such are engine, turbos' etc. Idea of straight pipes is less back pressure aka makes it easier to turbos to spool quicker aka if anything drive train related breaks (except trans) you're on your own. If you went out of your way to get a CPO car then keep it so you can use it. If you're looking to get faster for cheap/simplicity get a jb+ and a BT scan tool and you will feel a very noticeable difference.

Well I dont know if you guys remember a thread a while ago where the guy installed an intake, drove down the street, blew the turbos(apparently there was a packaging peanut of something in the intake that got into the turbo) and he demodded the car brought it in and bmw voided it because he had magnaflow mufflers, stock car just magnaflow mufflers. So they can definetly void your warranty for straight pipes, just remove them for big claims to be safe.

From experience dealerships try to jump down your throat on warranty issues whenever it involves the removing of OEM cats in the exhaust.
Anything just sound, they won't care. Make it bolt on and just swap it out if you have to bring it in. Oh and don't do that exhaust bc the drone will blow your eardrums out, if you go look at my threads concerning exhausts you will see I have an idea what I am talking about when it comes to exhaust.

just "straight pipes" and downpipes will be incredibly loud and annoying just like everybody else is telling you. If you want to make it loud I would do what your saying but the rasp is unbearable... I would put the vibrant resonators where the secondary cats were at to take away the rasp on the low rpm's and give the car alot lower tone instead of that HORRIBLE rasp sound! The vibrants make the car sound alot more toned instead of just out of control and they are like 90 bucks total!! If your looking for a straight pipe setup you should def do the vibrant resonators with it
