Help a Noob - SoCal

Hey guys – new member here. I’ve been lurking the forums for a while, but I finally had an issue arise that needs personal assistance. I hope you guys can help!

A little background… I drive an 07 335i sedan, and I’ve loved every moment of having it so far. Except recently, I’ve had two problems develop.

1. The transmission oil leaks
2. There is an insanely annoying rattle that persists while the engine is cold

Let’s start with the leak… I know it’s a common problem, but I’m unsure if the transmission pan gasket or the mechatronics-sealing sleeve is causing it. In either case, what should I replace? I’d rather not replace the oil pan if possible, considering it’s the most expensive part and the car only has 31,000 miles on it.

In any case, do you guys have any recommendations for an indy shop in the Orange County, Long Beach, or San Gabriel area that you’ve had great experiences with and would give me a decent quote on the diagnosis/repair? Thanks!

As far as the rattle, I originally thought it was the wastegate—seeing as how it’s a common issue—but after watching some videos on YouTube, I don’t believe it’s the culprit. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas to what it could be before I take it to a shop to have it diagnosed and fixed… some details:

1. It only occurs during the ten minutes or so while the engine is still warming up
2. The issue is relatively non-existent when the car is idling and rolling, but is very apparent when I’m at a stoplight and stepping on the brake. I can’t hear it when cruising either. I’ll try to get a video up soon.

Thanks in advance for the help! Sorry if my post was long and noobish… I’m still learning.

Cliff Notes: My 335i has some problems and I am looking for a reputable shop with decent prices. I realize there’s a sticky with a list of shops, but I just wanted to see if anyone had a specific shop recommendation for my car’s issues.

I have had great service from CMW (coast motor works) In HB. When my 325i started up smoking after work I was able to get it into them and processed at 4:55 on a Friday, and we all hate that customer. Haven't taken my 335i in there yet as its CPO.

I did the Mechatronics sleeve replacement and replaced the transmission pan gasket on an 07 335i and the car still wanted to leak oil slightly. I would recommend replacing the whole transmission pan as it is made out of plastic which will warp eventually.

As for the noise I need to see the car in order to diagnose it.

So far what I have seen is automatic 07 335s but I would assume it can happen to any auto e9x.
