Review/Install: Helix intake and WW meth kit

I'll make this quick as it's late and I'm ready to fall asleep...lol

First up is the Helix intake system. I purchased the Helix kit 3 weeks ago, not to long after the release, and then installed it about 2 weeks ago. The WW meth kit was installed last Thursday, but only after having the helix in for a full week of testing. My comparison for the Helix kit is compared to the bms filter I had in there before (not the DCI). The install was pretty easy and straight forward. The ONLY issue I had was trying to get the rear coupler/piping to fit back onto the stock intake box. That was a b**ch! All in all, it took me a little over 2hrs from beginning to end, with a little bs'ing in-between. Trying to get the rear piping to fit took up more than half of that time. I hate giving butt dyno reviews, but it does feel like I have a slight bit more power in the mid-range. One thing I can definitely say is that my oil temps are 10-20* lower while driving around. That to me is a huge plus! I guess having the air box does shield off some heat within the engine bay.

As for the WW meth kit? I LOVE IT!! My second best performance mod to date. Installation wasn't as exciting though. IMO, this kit is also easy to install IF you don't have an aftermarket intake system. It literally took me about 20mins to get everything wired up and my lines positioned for the pump. The painful realization came when I went to mount the pump in the location listed in the directions. I looked at the location and was like "Oh shit...this ain't gona work." Not only was the location a bust, but because the intake piping extended closer to the steering fluid reservoir AND positioned higher, the AR elbow I also purchased required a lot of modification to the new intake kit I just installed for decent fitment . If I had the nozzles face up, then it would hit the hood when closed and possibly pinch the meth line. Having it face down would pinch against the fluid reservoir hoses, but had a tad bit more clearance than facing up. Anyway, I had to do some thinking as to where I wanted things positioned and mounted. All of the obstacles allowed me to do a stealth install! (kinda had no choice) I decided to hide the pump behind the front bumper, just below the right grill. Because of tight fitment, I placed the pump inside the slot first, then I screwed on the black bracket that came attached to it initially. Once the bracket was on, I then took 4 heavy duty zip ties (not the cheapo ones), lined the holes up while favoring the far right hole, and placed 2 zip ties on each side. It was wedged in extremely tight with no play or moevemnt at all. The elbow, I decided to flip the nozzles upside down, but that still required a lot of cutting to the intake piping and back and forth test fitting. I also have to find a way to have to fluid reservoir sit back in the stock location. Right now, it's slightly tilted to avoid pinching the meth line.

Overall, I'm happy with the turnout, but I probably could have saved myself the money on the Helix kit if I knew I was going to butcher it the way I did.

**Btw, if you go this route, make sure to test meth flow AND spray BEFORE you put the pump tightly in place. Front bumper should only go back on after everything has proven to work flawlessly.**

I would have taken more pics, but I had to drop my car off at the body shop to get a couple dents fixed.

I guess i will stick with the DCI - definitely no room with the meth pump there.

Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the update man! looks good. Like you, after I installed the intake I realized installing the meth kit will be a b!tch. I was curious to see how you fitted the pump. Dzenno has his meth pump installed vertically, it would be cool if that fitment would go well with this intake.
Installing the rear hose on the stock intake box was very painful! But now that I look back into it, I wonder if removing the cabin filter and that tray beneath it would have been beneficial...

I need to order this asap. Tax return cant come faster.

This prob offers the same power gain the DCI's have to give, but the lower oil temps are what interest me. Summer is coming up!

Removing the cabin filter and tray made everything 10x easier. When i removed the tray, i got it on in like 5mins. Lol

Why'd u go with that intake? Just by looking at your pic for a second I could tell that the pump wasn't going to fit cause your cone is literally right in the pumps spot. Any advantages of leaving the stock airbox and adding an intake like u did over BMS's DCI?

I think the way I've got the pump positioned now (vertically behind the driver's side headlight) that the helix intake might actually work out just fine...meth pump is just on a DIY bracket...basically took a piece of metal bar that already had holes in it, bent it 90deg and placed it on the steering pump reservoir bracket...

My main reason for choosing the Helix was to retain the stock look. Im not a fan of having 2 large filters take center attention in the engine bay. I want a smooth look under the hood. My engine bay is usually clean. This is the dirtiest it has ever been...lol

I went with Helix because I wanted to keep the stock intake Box. It does a good job of not sucking hot air in when you're driving in traffic or around town. The problem is as we go up in boost it becomes restrictive and your turbos have to work harder to suck air in. The helix intake provides a lower impedance path to suck air in at higher boost levels.

So this helix intake kit is better than DCI's for Meth since boost is up?

I wouldn't say it's "better" for meth. I'm sure any kit you get would suit a meth kit just fine. It does however suck in less heat.
