Question Changing out a Fuel Vent Valve

Has anyone changed out a Fuel Vent Valve on their E90? I checked the DYI forum, but came up empty. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Tim

I looked at the parts diagram for the fuel tank vent system. There is no "vent valve" per se, but all I can tell you is all of the plumbing for the tank vent system is above the rear valance panel on the right side of the car behind the right rear wheel. There are a bunch of small bolts that hold the panel on and once removed the panel comes off and everything then is pretty much accessible.

I had to have a "vent pipe" replaced on my car a long time ago. The dealer did it as I thought it was a warranty claim, but it turned out a mouse ate a hole in the vent pipe. To remove that pipe the tech had to also pull the right rear fender liner out.

Good luck.

Thanks man, I appreciate the input. I didn't see it on the parts diagram for my car when looking online at Tischer's. However, when I emailed them, referencing the part number the SA from my local dealership gave me Evan & Jason were able to confirm it. I think the part is actually listed in a diagram for an X3 - go figure.

Anyway, if I can find time I will probably do a write up for the DIY section.

Would you mind posting the P/N? I'd like to look it up. Thanks

Thanks. So it looks like it is under the hood rather than in the rear near the fuel tank. I looked for it in the fuel tank part section under "fuel supply - ventilation". Know we'll know where where to look for it if we have issues with it. Did the bad valve throw a SES light? What caused the need to replace it.

Thanks again.

Well if it's under the hood, that hopefully allow for much quicker access.

If the SA is to be believed, he said that the Vent Valve was the culprit in my SES light when I took it in. However, he also said the vehicle would need to be reprogrammed with a software update as well after the install. They way he discussed it, it almost sounded like the two where related.

As for what caused the need to replace it, I do not exactly know.
