Transfercase or Differential

Hello Everyone,

My car started to make howling whining noises. The faster the car goes, the louder it gets and the higher the pitch. However, if i take the car out of gear there is no howling noise. I am assuming either transfer case or differential.

I have no mods on the drivetrian, however I did put an aftermarket clutch last summer installed by speedstar.

My scheduled appointment with BMW is 2 weeks from now. Is it safe to drive?
my car has 100k on it. a year ago BMW replaced my transmission.

Does anyone have any other suggestsions or recommendations?

So they just called me and they are giving me a new differential.

yup warranty covered.

the car drives like a dream.

I'm at 100k and so far i have recieved turbo replacement, engine, transmission, hpfp, injectors, differential and other minor things. all done between the kms of 80-100. my car is literally brand new on the inside.
