Extended Warranty, Extended Maintenance, etc.

Hi,

I need some help here please.
My 2006 330xi is at 33k now. I plan to keep my car at least 5 yrs.
I'd like to know if I should get an extended warranty or extended maintenance
What's the differences between the two? How much does each cost?

Thanks so much guys!

The extended warranty plan is the same as if you bought a CPO car. There is a deductible of $50 per visit, I think. I can't remember if it includes maintenance, but it may.

If it does, I would go for the warranty plan. A little extra coin upfront saves you time and cost later in the event of a breakdown especially if do not plan to keep the car beyond the extended warranty period. If you are planning on keeping it, then maybe the maintenance plan is better and find a good indy shop for everything else

Just my opinoin

I've heard about the indy shop being the best bet...esp with M cars. My gut tells me there's no way any extended warranty or maint plan would be written or priced in the owner's favor. But I was an idiot and took the $390 tire protection plan and $499 ding/fabric/paint touch up for 5 yrs. when I bought my car. Wouldn't you know 6 mos. later I haven't needed either? The people who designed the plans sure do!

check out www.twinkidneygrill.com. I just bought the extended warranty [BMW calls it Original Owner Protection Program] from them for $2300 and it was $1000 cheaper than what my dealer quoted. I am also going to buy the Maintenence plan from them too. Dealer quote = $1300 + tax. TwinKidneyGrill = $1,045.00. I am at 49K miles now.

Hi from Canada!

Does anybody out there know if it is possible to buy these extended warranties and have them work here? or a site that you can buy from where it's cheaper than the dealers here???

Thanks.

Maintenance is not included in the extended warranty or CPO. Maintenance is good to own because you never buy brakes or inspections (or wipers, oil, drive belts etc). Price a 4 wheel brake job on your car (pads and rotors please) and I think you'll see. Maintenance does not cover anything other than maintenance items. Have a sensor or control module go......no coverage.

The extended warranty if it's like CPO, covers most of the big stuff (engine, trans, diff, etc) and most electrical stuff too. Does not cover interior trim, sunroof or convertible top, water leaks etc. Price a new 6 speed auto installed and I think you'll see.

Indy's are either excellent, or horrible. No in between. Choose wisely as they are not governed or supported by BMW. I've seen a few really good finds on a tough diag from some indy's.......but I've seen a whole lot of hack work come out of indy's too.

Has anyone purchased extended warranty on 06 325? If so, how much.

My dealer is selling it for $2400 and the service warranty for $1400. I do not know if It's worth getting. Please give me some feed back. Thank You

Maintenance is definitely worth getting, you can get it for $1200 or so. Definitely : on this subject and ask any questions that hasn't been addressed after you do some research.

So I just checked out the twin kidney grill site and I got really confused because apparantly the plans are sold by BMW South Atlanta, the dealership that I ordered my car through. For a second I could not figure out how the website knew, then I realized it was just a coincidence!!

Thanks for the tip!

A few questions:

What exactly happens when you buy from them online and you live somewhere else? Do they send you some paperwork? Also, I heard that they are very strict about mileage (they won't sell it to you if your car is at 50,001 miles), so how could they verify your mileage when you buy online?

Thanks!

The E90 price on maint. is $1645, NOT $1045. My dealer quoted $1800 or so for it. I declined at the time.

Note that the $1045 price was from June 2007. I resurrected an old thread.

Anyone know what it means to buy something like this online? What happens when you do and what do you get? How do they check your mileage?

twinkidneygrill.com is an Atlanta dealer. I'm pretty sure that in order for them to activate the warranty you have to Fax or mail them a readout of your current mileage. That can be done by stopping by a dealer and asking them for a printout with your current mileage on it.

The warranty info is entered into BMW's nation wide system and any dealer can access that.

I think alot of people are recommending these extended plans way too quickly without knowing enough info. Some of you are recommending he buy a $1400 maintenance plan which only covers 2 additional years after the original 4 year coverage.

You don't know how many miles he drives per year. He might only drive 5000 miles a year. How much maintenance does he need over 2 years? Maybe 2 oil changes? He may or may not need an Inspection I or II. Even with Inspection II and 2 oil changes, you wouldn't reach $1400.

To the OP, it all depends on how much you drive your car IMHO. If you're driving at least 10,000 miles per year, then consider it.

I think getting the extended warranty is definitely worth it if you bought your car and plan on keeping it beyond the 50,000 miles...as for the maintenance, it's not worth it IMO.
