e90 sludge issues

Hi Guys,

Firstly thanks for all your input.

Car Specs: 2005 e90 320i Engine N45

I noted some sludge at the bottom of the engine panel, expecially on 2 hosts (See image).

I brought the car to two mechanics, one said it was the vac pump and would cost $1,2k to replace, while another said it was just a leakage of the host mentioned above.

Would appreciate if someone could identify:
1) The name of these hosts
2) whether the sludge is caused by leaking issues of these host or something else?

Cheers,
BK

No idea, sorry. I happened to know b/c I need the small rubber spring that's at the U joint of the line, and I can't buy it separately from the entire line, which is $$.

If u happen to replace yours and have the spring left over from your old line, keep me in mind

Is your power steering reservoir leaking? Take a closer look, if the power steering fluid is running down to the lines below. If yes, there is an o-ring under the cap to create a seal and over time that o-ring breaks down and as the power steering fluid gets hot, it rises/boils and spills out. Check the power steering fluid level as well.
