I Need a repair shop for waterpump,
Yesterday my 06, 325xi sedan , E90 began to 1st yellow overheat symbol came up , then red overheat symbol, luckily I just left my home and was able to turn back around. After about an hour when the radiator has cooled ,I checked my coolant and it looked empty or really low, I'm guessing the waterpump is shot at a little over 40k miles.
I'm looking for a recommendation of a repair shop not too far from the Bronx, NYC area since I will need to have it towed to location. Thanks in advance.

Sorry that I can't help with a local shop for you, but I recommed you read up on the subject in the DIY section and in the maintenance section so your are familiar with the pump replacement. Usually the pumps fail around 100,000 miles and most people replace the thermostat along with the pump. The pumps fail due to excessive heat that eventually fries the control electronics that are in the back of the pump housing. Assuming you drive mostly in NYC traffic, most likely your pump has seen the equivenlent amount of heat that a non-NYC car sees in 100,000 miles.
The pump is very expensive on the order of $500 to $600 depending on who you get it from. The T-stat is another $100. The labor to replae both should only be 2 hours at an honest shop. There should be no extra labor to replace the T-stat since it needs to be removed to take the pump out. Good luck. |

Thanks 'ENINTY' for the info, I was really lucky, I just got picked up at the airport, drove home with no problem, then I decided to do some grocery shopping and as I'm about to get onto the highway, the overheat symbols showed up , got off at the next exit and was able to get home in 'Limp' mode .

Driving this car (or any car) around with overheat warnings could cost you an engine. Easily. I would leave it parked until you can get it fixed, and have it towed [flat bed] to the garage. |
